Ecoterra Costa Rica: Eden Chocolate Tour
Live the sweetest experience in the Arenal area in an authentic, traditional and fun-filled way.
Just 15 minutes from La Fortuna, the Castro Rodríguez family welcomes anyone who likes to visit their
organic farm. This family business is oriented to the cultivation of cocoa and coffee in a 100% chemical-
free way and in an environment of secondary forest with trees over 100 years old and up to 15 meters
in diameter that next to the Burío River, one of the most important in the area, form a landscape of
nature and tranquility that naturally attracts a large number of birds and other species.
At the entrance of the tour, a welcome cocktail of tropical fruits will be tasted while a brief history of
the family is provided and how this project began to what it is today. Then begins a tour of the
plantations in the company of one of the hosts who will tell us a little about the history of cocoa, its
pollination process, interesting facts and other characteristics that will allow us to recognize the cocoa
tree in its different stages, as well as the juicy fruit that can be tasted with the freshly cut sweet pulp of
the plant.
Let's make chocolate! Now that you know everything about cocoa, it's time to use it to create
your own candies like the ancients did. In this hand-on experience you will be able to observe the
process of fermentation and drying of the seeds to roast and grind them, until they become the
chocolate that is bought in the supermarket. In addition, you will live the experience of making the
traditional drink of our ancestors, with interactive activities to have fun and enjoy a high-quality organic
chocolate that you can combine with other natural ingredients such as cinnamon, peanuts, coffee and
many others... you're going to taste some freshly made real chocolate!
After this sweet journey through the world of chocolate, the adventure ends with a delicious cup
of coffee dripped at the table in the traditional Costa Rican style, accompanied by breads and snacks
typical of popular Costa Rican cuisine.
