The East Coast Flyer
The name Pan Am has always been tied to Latin America and the route network covered most of Central and South America by the mid 1930’s. Known as a “Signature Service” Pan Am Flight PA201 was operating in 1939 six days per week using the Sikorsky S-42 flying boat and took a grand total of six days to reach Buenos Aires from the Pan Am Terminal in Miami.
The flight was later extended to include New York and existed until the airline ceased business. InterContinental Hotels, founded by Pan Am, built its first hotel in Belem, Brazil. We visit many of the original ports-of-call of the Pan Am flying boats and stay in many of the original hotels used to accommodation Pan Am passengers and crew along the route.
