Day 1: Miami

Your journey begins in Miami at one of the world’s most iconic hotels. A private meet & greet at Miami Airport or Stations whisks you in comfort to the Biltmore
where memories have been created since 1926 An early check-in has been arranged for guests arriving on inter-continental flights or why not arrive a few days
early and take in the sights?

Make sure you have packed your dancing shoes as tonight we meet your Expedition Team and fellow travellers at our Gala Cocktail Reception followed by dinner at
with live entertainment that sets the tone for our journey as we retrace the routes of the pioneering aviators to and from South America.
Perhap’s a cheeky nightcap in the famous The Biltmore Bar We depart for Havana in the morning!

Day 2: Havana

Travellers of old would have left the Hotel at dawn travelling to the Marine Terminal. Our Flying Valet Service take’s care of your luggage and we
leave at a more sensible time after breakfast for our transfer to our Private Jet  Terminal at Fort Lauderdale Airport.  We pay a short visit to the former Pan Am Flying Boat Terminal at Coconut Key  en-route.  Meet our Private Jet Crew and relax in comfort on board our VIP  configured Boeing 737 aircraft during the short flight and enjoy our Silver Wing Lunch Service.

Upon arrival in Havana we transfer to the Nacional, one of the most historic hotels in downtown Havana. This afternoon some time to refresh and explore
independently. This evening we enjoy a unique Cuban dinner experience.

Day 3: Havana

After breakfast this morning we depart on an exciting day tour. A fleet of  vintage American Cars await.
You will see Havana’s treasures and culture up close while enjoying personalized local service, we take you on a journey following Ernest Hemingway’s footsteps of one of the worlds greatest writers, from his favorite Bar and restaurants “EL Floridita” and “Bodeguita del medio” to his home at “Finca Vigía” in San Francisco de Paula, where he lived from mid 1939 to 1960, now a museum.

We enjoy lunch at a local Cuban “Paladar”.  We return to our hotel mid-afternoon for some free-time. This evening, join us   for Cuban Cocktails in the bar before dinner at the Nacional.

 

Day 4: Santo Domingo

After breakfast this morning we transfer to Havana Airport for our flight to Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic. The sparkling ocean reflects under our wings as we enjoy our Silver Wing Lunch Service en-route. Landing in the Domican Republic, we enjoy an afternoon city tour of Santa Domingo taking in the Zona Colonial and the landing sites at San Pedro before checking into our hotel with time to refresh and relax.

This evening we introduce Free Dining. We like to run our Expeditions at a relaxed pace where possibly and also provide our guests with flexibility. Free
Dining on select nights offers our guests the opportunity to dine alone or withnew found friends at a time that suits you at any of our hotel restaurants. We’re staying at the El Embajador, the same hotel used by Pan American passengers! Why not take advantage of our slightly later start in the morning and hit the nightspots this evening?

Day 5: Puerto Rico

We only have a short flight to San Juan in Puerto Rico today so guests can enjoy a leisurely morning and enjoy breakfast before we transfer to the airport for our flight.
After refreshments on board, we arrive in San Juan and head straight into town for lunch, checking into our hotel, the original Pan Am InterContinental earlyafternoon.
Enjoy some pool time, beach time or relax time before we meet up again for a poolside cocktail before departing on our special Caribbean Dinner, especially
curated for our group.

Day 6: Puerto Rico

Today we introduce our “Personalize Your Day” programme. We realize that all guests are not the same and we all have different interests. In most destinations,
our guests will be able to pre-select their activities for the day. Here in San Juan, we have a great selection of tours and activities to appeal to all tastes.
The water’s off Puerto Rico offer some of the best sea life in the Caribbean. Culebra is a small, sparsely populated island and surrounding group of cays off the east coast of Puerto Rico. In the northwest, Flamenco Beach is a long crescent of white sand and turquoise water backed by tree-covered hills. Nearby Tamarindo Beach offers clear waters full of fish, sea turtles and rays.

Enjoy a full day of snorkelling and relaxing on the beaches. For the more adventurous, we offer a full day to Cueva Ventana. We hike up to the cave where we are met by trained biologists who provide guided tours of the natural cave, which contains insects, snakes, and bats.

We then visit the Arecibo Observatory, a unique facility made world-famous in the James Bond film - Golden Eye. Another interesting excursion is to the
El Yunque Rain Forest where we undertake a nature walk with local biologists followed by kayaking at Bioluminescent Bay. Both these activities do require a fairly good level of fitness!

A more leisurely day is spent discovery the Artists and the history of Ponce. A curator from the Museo de Arte de Ponce brings the museums collection to
life. The collection is one of the most important collections of European art in the Americas with works ranging from Renaissance to the 19th century with
particular strengths in Baroque and Victorian painting. This evening due to the staggered arrival of tours, enjoy free dining at our hotel, the InterContinental.

Day 7: Trinidad

We say goodbye to San Juan this morning after breakfast, rejoining our faithful private jet crew and travelling on to Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago
We enjoy lunch on board before touching down early afternoon. Our local hosts take pleasure in showing us their city in a short-orientation tour before checking in at our hotel.

After some time to relax and perhaps a swim, our Trinidadian hosts are on hand to collect us as we depart for an al-fresco dinner with live entertainment.
As we have a later start in the morning, some time to let our hair down tonight.

Day 8: Belem

This morning we have an optional fishing expedition on the Caribbean Sea with an early start, alternatively, have a lazy leisurely breakfast and relax by the pool before we meet up and depart for the airport and our flight to Belem, Brazil, he first time that we touch base on the South American mainland.  We have lunch on board our aircraft before landing mid-afternoon due to timedifferences and transferring to our hotel, the Hilton, the original Pan Am Crew Hotel. We have some time to freshen up before  meeting up for drinks and dinner at our hotel.

Day 9: Belem

After breakast we once again offer our “Personalize Your Day” programme. Belem was an important point on the Pan American route network. It was here that the very first InterContinental Hotel, the leading hotel chain founded by Juan Trippe and Pan Am, was opened in 1949. It was a 4 floor, 85 room hotel which boasted a telephone on each floor!

Our guests can choose from a full day tour to the hidden communities as we travel by boat to the Low Acara River. A fascinating insight into rural community life. For a half day option, an interesting architecturely themed walking tour of Belem. We also look forward to a private tour of the Museu Paraenese Emilio Goeldi, the Brazilian Research Institute which researches and catalogs biological diversity in the Amazon.

This evening we travel down to the historic Belem Docks to see the revitalization of this former derelict quayside area and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 10: Recife

After breakfast, we have a late-morning departure to Recife with lunch being served on-board the aircraft, touching down in the city early afternoon. The capital of Brazil’s northeastern state of Pernambuco, Recife is distinguished by its many rivers, bridges, islets and peninsulas and the historic old town center dates to the 16th century. Free dining at our hotel this evening.

Day 11: Recife

After breakfast, “Personalize Your Day” perhaps with a tour of the stunning Colonial Architecture with our Historic Recife tour or experience the city from street level on a walking tour that takes in the World Heritage Site of Olinda where you can view some of the most stunning expamples of European Colonial architecture in the whole of South America.

If getting some exercise is high on your list of priorities at this stage of our expedition, then we offer a full day Bonito Hiking Tour. The municipality of Bonito/PE is just over 2 hours from Recife. The Véu da Noiva 1 waterfall is perfect for adrenaline lovers, because the access is through a path of average difficulty and its constitution is ideal for Rappelling and Ziplining.   Another popular option in Recife is our art immersion experience at the Ricardo Brennand Institute. The Institute is a non-profit organization and holds a permanent collection of historic and artistic objects of diversified provenience, ranging from Early Middle Ages to 20th century, with strong emphasis in objects, documents and artwork related to Colonial and Dutch Brazil, including the world’s largest assemblage of paintings by Frans Post. We enjoy an in-depth private tour with one of the curators.

This evening we have a “quiet” night with cocktails and dinner at our hotel.

Day 12: Copacabana

An early start this morning and we enjoy breakfast on board the aircraft landing in Rio de Janeiro just before lunch. We head straight to our hotel for lunch overlooking the Copacabana. Rio is South America’s tropical party city. Even if you have visited the city before,  Rio is bursting with experiences, sights, sounds and smells that are unmistakebly South American!

After lunch we offer an optional afternoon city orientation tour or alternatively relax by the pool or on the beach or stroll along the promenade of the Copacabana.
This evening we celebrate our arrival in Rio in a style that only the Brazilians can offer with a very special evening of dining and entertainment exclusively for our
guests.

Day 13: Copacabana

After breakfast, choose from our Personalize Your Day experiences. Choose our half day option with early access to the Christ Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, the iconic symbols of Rio the world over. Head into the rainforests of Tijuca with our off-roading experience by Jeep or experience the famous Favela’s of Rio at Rocinha with our walking tour. For a dose of culture, our full day out to Petropolis includes the Imperial Palace and the renown Crystal Palace.

We are spoilt for choice in Rio with an art immersion taking in the Niterói City Tour and Contemporary Art Museum Admission. For a different perspective, join our visit to the Roberto Burle Marx home and gardens. Roberto Burle Marx was a Brazilian landscape architect whose designs of parks and gardens made him world-famous. He is accredited with having introduced modernist landscape architecture to Brazil.

This evening, free dining at our hotel or explore Rio.

Day 14: Iguazu Falls

We say goodbye to stunning Rio this morning, transferring to the airport late morning for our flight out to the spectacular Igauzu Falls with lunch being served on-board.

There are few sights more awe inspiring as Iguazu Falls. Stretching almost three kilometers and straddling both Argentina and Brazil their scale, power and beauty will not soon be forgotten.  

Iguazú Falls or Iguaçu Falls are waterfalls of the Iguazu River on the border of the Argentine province of Misiones and the Brazilian state of Paraná. Together, they make up the largest waterfall system in the world. The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazu. Upon arrival we meet our local guide for a private tour of the Falls from a unique perspective.  

This evening we enjoy dinner at our spectacular hotel.

Day 15: Iguazu Falls

After breakfast, choose from our Personalize Your Day experiences to make the most of your day in Iguazu.  Travel across border to experience Paraguay at Ciudad del Este or spend the morning or afternoon at the Falls with a professional photographer.  

For an active day traverse the Poco Prieto Trail with an inflatable boat. This tour begins with a 320 metre suspended footbridge right in the middle of the Iguazu National Park. A 9 km one way trail follows, which can be covered on foot or on a bicycle. On this stretch, you can see beautiful flora and fauna native to the park. At the end of the trail, take a short break to rest. Here, there is a suspension bridge followed by a 500-metre rustic trail which leads to a 10-metre high observation tower.  Alternatively visit the Falls at your leisure.
This evening we are hosted to a special dinner experience at a secret location

Day 16: Buenos Aires

After breakfast we depart for the airport and our flight to Buenos Aires and Argentina and the final stop on our epic Expedition following the old routes of Pan American.  

After landing, we stop off for lunch at a traditional venue before checking in at our historic hotel.  Enjoy some time to relax and refresh before we head out for dinner this evening at a local speciality restaurant.

Day 17: Buenos Aires

After breakfast the final opportunity to “Personalize Your Day”.  Hone your cooking skills by trying your hand with our Argentinian Cooking Class.  Put on your dancing shoes and learn how to do the Tango from the real McCoy!  Discover the history and times of Argentina’s turbulent past as well as one of it’s most famous daughters, Evita Perron.

Obtain a fascinating glimpse into Buenos Aires and its Jewish legacy or experience the city from street level with our heritage walking tour.  For the artists on-board, we offer a unique opportunity to discover Bohemian Buenose Aires with a local artist incorporating an opportunity for outdoor painting.  

Tonight is our final night and we say goodbye in true Argentinian fashion at our Gala Farewell Dinner.

 

Day 18: End of Itinerary

After breakfast our Expedition ends with a transfer to Buenos Aires airport for your return flight.  Alternatively extend your stay in South America.  Your Travel Adviser or Colonial Travel Team will be happy to create a bespoke itinerary to meet your requirements.
