Introduction

This is an exciting expedition into the breathtaking landscapes of Northeast Argentina, dedicated to exploring wildlife conservation and rewilding efforts.

At the forefront of mitigating the global climate crisis, the Douglas Tompkins Foundation and Tompkins Conservation are dedicated to safeguarding, rewilding, and defending land and marine ecosystems in South America. Together, they collaborate to establish national parks, reintroduce vital species, and have successfully created 13 national parks, protecting an impressive 14.5 million acres. Their goal is to restore thriving, interconnected landscapes where both flora and fauna can flourish while fostering resilient communities that reap the benefits of a healthy natural world. Busanga Safaris plays a crucial role in promoting tourism and generating employment and revenue that directly benefit local communities. During your travels, you will visit a remarkable project in the Gran Chaco.

Your journey commences in the remote "El Impenetrable" National Park, situated within the Gran Chaco eco-region. This park, South America's second-largest continuous forest after the Amazon, was opened to the public in 2017. Spanning 128,000 hectares, it safeguards diverse habitats such as forests, pastures, marshes, and lagoons and provides refuge for endangered species like the Giant Anteater, Tapir, and Maned Wolf. Although spotting these iconic creatures will pose a challenge, the park teems with fascinating endemic species and boasts an impressive array of over 300 bird species.

Next, you venture to the captivating Ibera Wetlands, a reserve established to create Argentina's most significant natural park, where locally extinct fauna is being reintroduced. Here, you can immerse ourselves in the vast open grasslands and marshes through day and night safaris, boat or canoe trips, walks, and birdwatching excursions. Your "wish to see" list includes Marsh Deer, Brocket Deer, Pampas Deer, Howler Monkeys, and the 418 bird species recorded in this remarkable area.

Your final destination is San Sebastian de la Selva.  Originally a farm dedicated to forestry and livestock farming, these practices were the cause of the complete deforestation of 30% of its total area, which negatively impacted the normal functioning of the ecosystem.  With the creation of the Private Reserve in 2009, the first step was taken to recover the environment by removing livestock from the place. Since then, with its environmental company  "Bayka", the lodge has actively worked  in the regeneration of the Misiones jungle and the conservation of its biodiversity.

On your last day in this wonderful part of Argentina, enjoy a visit to the spectacular Iguazu Falls.
