Namibia & South Africa self drive

Introduction

Explore the wild and open spaces of Namibia, the Kalahari meaning 'the great thirst' is an exceptionally beautiful living desert.  Travel to the  NamibRand Nature Reserve, founded to conserve the unique environment and wildlife species of the Namib Desert, the park’s mix of dunes, mountains, rocky outcrops, sandy flats, and gravel plains provides habitats for a diversity of mammals, including hyenas, jackals, foxes, antelopes, and various wild cats. Travel to Sossusvlei where you will find the iconic red sand dunes of the Namib. The clear blue skies contrast with the giant red dunes to make this one of the most scenic natural wonders of Africa and a photographer's heaven.  Your last stop in Namibia, set along Namibia's spectacularly scenic coast, is the seaside town of Swakopmund is known for its wide-open avenues, colonial architecture, and its surrounding otherworldly desert terrain

Onwards to discover South Africa, and the magical city of Cape Town - highlights include the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary African Art; Table Mountain's jaw-dropping views; Boulders Beach, where penguins might swim right up to you in the warm Indian ocean waters; the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, where you can walk along a treetop canopy among incredible native flora or watch an open-air concert at the base of the mountain; Robben Island, where visitors can see the cell where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years.

Out of the city, head up the West Coast to Paternoster, this charming fishing village is a great place for a seaside escape, with its historical buildings, warm hospitality, long beach and beautiful views.  Next stop is the Cape Winelands, taste sublime cuisine in our foodie capital and sip local wines on an historic Cape Dutch Estate  in Franschhoek.

Your last stop is along the Whale Coast for a restful last few days, the route is backed by fynbos-covered mountains and includes farms, rivers, caves, and valleys. Spend your days here taking forest or beach walks or perhaps some whale spotting (seasonal).
