Day 3: State of Amazonas

07:30amDeparture from Manaus. En route to the lodge you will stop to observe the magnificent Meeting of the Waters, where the muddy waters of the Solimões River meet the black waters of the Negro River. At this crucial junction point, the two rivers – with different speeds, temperatures and consistencies – run side by side for several kilometers without actually mixing, ultimately joining to form the great Amazon River. Here, you will be able to experience this yourself feeling the difference in temperature between the two distinct rivers.

11:00amArrival at Juma Amazon Lodge. You will be greeted by the hotel's staff and enjoy a delicious welcome drink as you appreciate the wonders of nature around you.

12:00pm Lunch. Enjoy a delicious lunch beside the marvelous sights of the juma river.

03:00pm Canoeing. This canoeing tour provides an in depth and up close exploration of the igarapés (Amazonian creeks) and the igapós (flooded forest), an experience made possible only by paddle canoes. During the excursion, you will have the chance to swim and may even encounter some of the river’s most majestic creatures: pink dolphins!

07:00pm Dinner. Another delicious meal surrounded by nature!

08:00pmCayman spotting. This is an evening expedition to observe frogs, birds and most importantly, caymans. The guide uses his flashlight to help spot caymans. With this light, you will get to see the cayman’s eyes, which reflect a bright red dot, as the animal remains paralyzed and clearly visible. Then, a once in a lifetime experience follows! The guide will bring the cayman aboard for participants to see. Afterward, the cayman is returned to the river, unharmed and you will have a fantastic experience to remember.

Extra information:

Full of natural charm and an exotic and diverse cuisine, the Amazon is the heart of the Amazon rainforest, the largest tropical forest in the world.

1. Communication: State of Amazonas area code is 92

2. Electricity voltage: 110V

3. Wear comfortable clothes (and bathing suits) and walking shoes. Don't forget to wear hats/caps, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent.

4. Yellow fever (a disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes bites) vaccination is recommended before the visit. If you are taking the vaccine for the first time, you must take it within 10 days before the trip (this time period is not necessary if you have already taken the vaccine)

Juma Amazon Lodge

Juma Amazon Lodge is located in a remote and untouched region 100 km (62 miles) southeast of Manaus.  It can be reached in approximately three hours by vans and boats (during the trip we pass through the Meeting of the Waters and, on the way back, also by the Pirarucu Floating Dock). The trip can be made by hydroplane (30 minutes) upon request. Juma features 19 intimate bungalows seamlessly nestled into the lush surroundings of the Amazon Rainforest. In order to accommodate the water levels of the wet season (often rising up to 15 meters, or 49 feet), the property was built on stilts upon solid ground resting at treetop level. The lodge is entirely ecofriendly in design and construction. All materials used in its construction are native and found abundantly in the region, carefully extracted from the surrounding area. Both the construction and the architectural style of the lodge reflect the techniques employed by Amazon River natives when building their own homes. Juma Lodge is rustic yet beautiful, offering guests an optimized blend of authenticity and comfort. The lodge’s footprint is minimalist, yet elegant in concept. Six of our bungalows offer views of the surrounding forest, 12 are riverfront (one of them is bigger, accommodating families) and one is panoramic. All bungalows have private bathrooms with hot water solar systems, porches with hammocks and ceiling fans ideal for the Amazonian night, which tends to be far cooler than Manaus.

Day 4: State of Amazonas

05:00amSunrise.  An unforgettable experience! Early in the morning we leave for a sunrise excursion where you will contemplate the exquisite and mesmerizing change in the sky’s color and the sounds of the waking birds. If you want to get a closer look at all the colorful birds, you can ask the guides for binoculars. It will almost feel as if you are one of them waking up at dawn looking forward to a sensational day ahead!

07:00amBreakfast. Enjoy a tasty breakfast after waking up to that wonderful experience.

08:30amJungle hike. In this educational jungle walk, the expert guide will introduce you to the wildlife of the Amazon. He will show you plants and describe their uses, as many are edible or medicinal. The paths implemented in exploration walks are constantly changed to avoid damaging the forest with overuse. You will see in your stay here that protecting the environment is a must here.

12:00pmLunch. Surrounded by nature because it never gets old!

03:00pmPiranha fishing. You will board a motorboat to fish and learn more about the infamous piranha as well as other Amazonian fishes. Fishing is easier in the dry season as the fish cannot hide in the flooded areas as they tend to do in the wet season. After fishing, we will stop to see beautiful water lilies. The return to the lodge will be during sunset, which usually provides some of the most stunning views the Amazon has to offer.

07:00pmDinner. Before the next enriching activity!

08:00pm Lecture.  Enjoy the insight of one of our highly trained and skilled local guides as he gives an informal lecture on everyday life in the Amazon, local tales and legends, and the overall culture of the region.

You can end this day by relalxing on the hammocks in your room. An ideal end to a perfect day!
