Day 1: South Luangwa National Park

You'll be met by a driver from Mfuwe Lodge and transferred 25 minutes through the local village, over the Luangwa Bridge and into the park. You will see wildlife as soon as you near the bridge so be sure to keep your binoculars handy!

Activities at the lodge include game drives, game walks and night drives with experienced safari guides. The team goes out of their way to ensure you see as much as possible during your stay but you can opt out and enjoy the beautiful spa, swimming pool and numerous viewing points at the lodge itself.

Expert tips

Mfuwe Lodge is set within the main park and one of the most prolific game viewing areas of the South Luangwa National Park. Giraffe, buffalo, antelope, crocodile, impala, baboons and elephant wander in front of the lodge all day.

You'll enjoy your first proper game drive in the evening and after sun downers, do a slow night drive back to the lodge with a spotlight.

Day 2: South Luangwa National Park

You'll transfer to your first bush camp after you've enjoyed an early morning game drive and a bush breakfast. Your transfer is treated as a game drive and you'll arrive in camp in time for lunch and a siesta.

Expert tips

The luxury bush camps are just 4 bed-roomed which means a lot of personal attention. You'll be with a maximum of 6 other guests and less if there are any single occupants.

You'll enjoy another outing in the afternoon, by vehicle, checking out the area, sundowners at a pretty spot and then a night drive back to camp.

Relax over dinner and choose your itinerary for the following day; whether it’s a game walk or drive it’s worth bearing in mind that photography is much easier from a 4x4 and you will be able to travel further afield than if you were on foot. That said, your choice will depends on what you want to get out of the safari experience, there’s nothing like the delights of seeing, feeling and smelling the bush up close and your stay should include at least one unforgettable bush walk!

Day 3: South Luangwa National Park

Wake-up call is early! Somewhere between 6 and 630 a.m you'll hear a soft voice calling or a drum beating and your tray of tea/coffee and biscuits will arrive. This is the best time of the day to see a wide variety of wildlife. Night life are returning from their nocturnal activities and everybody else is getting up for the day.

Expert tips

You'll head out on a vehicle after a cuppa, to a safe spot to set off on your walk. Return to camp around 11 a.m for brunch and a siesta, before heading out again after 4pm tea.

The guides in camp have exceptional knowledge of the area. Walking enables you to spot the smaller signs of the bush. You'll spend your walk investigating tracks, looking at animal droppings, discussing the trees and bushes, as well as spotting the plentiful wildlife.

Day 4: South Luangwa National Park

South Luangwa is a destination hot spot for viewing leopard populations and has a well-earned reputation as a first class leopard park. With superb game drives every day you’re sure to spot your fair share and take home some long lasting memories of this beautiful graceful creature.

Each day follows the same lazy pattern. You'll return around 7 pm in the evenings for your evening drinks around the fire and dinner. This is when the biggest tales are heard!

Day 5: South Luangwa National Park

Enjoy the transfer to your next bush camp destination, scheduled for arrival in time for lunch. All camps are hidden gems, individually designed and hand-picked for their close proximity the water-holes or rivers, the perfect spot to watch the wildlife come down to drink.

Expert tips

Although most guests head off to their rooms after lunch, all of the camps have individual seating areas, usually overlooking some kind of waterhole or lagoon. These are ideal spots to watch the game coming to drink over the siesta period, or read a book with camera handy, just in case!

Day 6: South Luangwa National Park

Look out for the packs of wild dogs who have made the park their home, we’ve even had reports from a few lucky guests who have spotted the pups too! More often seen and the root of much excitement are the mischievous baboons obviously having a great time cavorting across the park in search of food!

We carry mineral water, tea/coffee/snacks and some soda's on each game drive; we also have bird and mammal books to check up on the various species. Your day pack should include your binoculars, camera, a sun hat, suncream and insect repellant. Also extra batteries for your camera ...

Day 7: South Luangwa National Park

Time to bid farewell to the camp and head back to the charming Mfuwe Lodge for a last night of luxury and a final chance to look out over the lagoon with its abundant wildlife, (trip transfer times to be advised in camp).

Expert tips

Mfuwe Lodge will feel like the big city after your days in the real bush! You could enjoy a swim in the infinity pool overlooking the small river in front of the lodge, or you could catch a quiet moment or two in the library. Tea/coffee and snacks are available throughout the day in the main seating area. You could also enjoy a last afternoon game drive, or just enjoy the balcony off your room.

Day 8: End of Itinerary

You'll be transferred to the Mfuwe airport (25 minutes), at a time to be confirmed in camp. There will be time for a breakfast before you go and last minute shopping purchases in the lodge shop. You could also arrange to visit Tribal Textiles and other shops on the way to the airport, to pick up a few locally made gifts and memorabilia.

Expert tips

Enjoy a breakfast before transferring to the airport. You'll need to settle your shop, drinks and spa bill before departing.
