Day 1: San Jose

Upon your arrival, after passing through immigration and customs, please proceed to the exit of the airport terminal. There, you will find a travel representative waiting for you, holding a sign with your name on it.

Private transfer to San Jose town.   

Check in at your hotel. 

Meals on your own.

In the early evening join your guide for an orientation briefing where you will have the opportunity to get an overview of the following day’s activities, ask questions to prepare for the trip.

Day 2: Tortuguero National Park

Thu. 21 May 2026

 Early Land and boat transfer from San Jose to your hotel in Tortuguero on the Caribbean Coast, stopping en route for a hearty Costa Rican breakfast (approximately 4 hours transfer). 

On arrival to La Pavona docks, you will board your boat for a shared transfer towards your hotel in Tortuguero.

After the adventure you will be ready for a delicious and relaxed lunch featuring typical Caribbean dishes like Casado. You must try it! 

In the afternoon, enjoy a private boat canal tour for 2 hours along the wildlife rich canals of Tortuguero National Park. This is an amazing opportunity to capture photographs of the canals and exhuberant wildlife like  species of monkeys, iguanas, crested basilisk lizards,  sloths,  lots of water birds,  toucans, parrots, parakeets, caiman (cousins of alligators), and possibly crocodiles, as well as colorful tropical forest birds. 

This evening dinner is included at the hotel,  the creative chef at the hotel is known for fresh and flavorful dishes.

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park

 Tortuguero National Park,  In the morning, enjoy a private boat canal tour for 2 hours along the wildlife rich canals of Tortuguero National Park.

Tortuguero and its labyrinth and network of natural waterways give the visitor the opportunity to experience the true rainforest experience, the dream of exploring dense and endless jungles, full of flora and fauna without getting off the boat and walking through muddy trails. 

A typical Costa Rican lunch is included  

This afternoon you may enjoy a walk to the local town of Tortuguero.

Day 4: Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui

Ecological Garden and Macaw Photo shoot - Sarapiquí Region 

After breakfast, take a shared boat transfer towards La Pavona dock.

On arrival pick up by your private transportation and transfer towards the Sarapiqui area. En route stop for a visit at Plumas & Picos to look for birds and other wildlife, including toucans, guans, tanagers, hummingbirds, and more. With your expert guides, explore feeders and trails.

Continue your way towards Sarapiquí. Stop in route for a macaw photo shoot.

Macaw´ Sanctuary of Don Alvaro -Photoshoot Sarapiquí

Day 5: Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui

Private La Selva Biological Station OTS Walk

Today includes a nature walk around the rainforest station at La Selva with an expert naturalist guide. This extensive trail system has plenty of opportunities to look for animals and birds. You also will learn about tropical field research projects from expert naturalist guides.

Highlights:  An excellent rainforest location for wildlife viewing. Suspended bridge across a river with excellent chances to look for iguanas, toucans, and even sloths in the forest canopy.  Opportunities to meet biologists in the field.

Stop for lunch at  Pierella Ecological  Garden:  enjoy a tasty traditional cuisine!

Highlights:  Learn about tropical butterflies, and look for colorful birds, and sloths.

Later enjoy  the Ecological Garden. This special location offers great diversity of habitats supporting, abundant wildlife, sloth watching, birdfeeders, a butterfly garden, tropical crops like cocoa. many samples of native and exotic tropical fruit trees, sloth watching, and some of the best traditional food of the area.

Day 7: San Gerardo de Dota

Shared Paraiso del Quetzal Tour (L)

Highlights: Variety of cloud forest wildlife. A privileged place to look for toucanets and quetzals. Beautiful lookouts to the Pacific Ocean.

Today’s nature walk explores one of the most famous sites  to look for quetzals in Costa Rica.
Join your expert guide equipped with spotting scope and bird guide along paths bound by beautiful flowers and verdant plants to look for the elusive quetzal and other birds of the misty forest. Walk with  ups and downs that sometimes can be steep. 
After lunch there is time to look for a great variety of brilliant hummingbirds at their feeders.

 Experience bird photography at Paraiso del Quetzal’s private observation deck, a birdwatching sanctuary nestled within the hotel grounds. Day 8: San Jose

Palo Verde  - Transfer to San Jose 

After breakfast,  another great opportunity to capture photographs of the highland birds and wildlife. 

Afterwards, join your private guide in  Palo Verde Cloud Forest Reserve

Nestled just a one-hour drive from San José lies Palo Verde Cloud Forest Reserve. This private reserve is between 1520 and 2085 meters above sea level at the Caribbean watershed of the continental divide at the Talamanca Mountains, a famous and well-known elevation for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.

February to May is the best time to look for iconic residents: the Resplendent Quetzal and the Three-wattled Bellbird, whose strange call resonates through the trees. It is also an excellent place to look for hummingbirds, tanagers,  toucanets, and many endemic Talamanca birds.

Check out and depart with your guide towards San José. Enjoy a stop for lunch en route before continuing to your San Jose hotel.

A farewell dinner is included tonight at a favorite local restaurant in town.
