The vegetation of the high mountains of Cerro de la Muerte is quite distinct from lower elevations and dominated by oaks, bamboo, ferns, bromeliads and trees of the avocado family. In these high, cool and often windy and misty habitats live a variety of colorful bird species including the Resplendent Quetzal, which were considered sacred by ancient indigenous people. On your guided trail you may encounter besides the Quetzal other mystical cloud forest birds such as Timberline Wren, Wrenthrush, Long-tailed Silky Flycatcher, and Flame Throated Warbler.
