Day 1: Overnight Travel

Depart the U.S. today on international flight to Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

Expert tips

There are 2 flight options to get to Santa Cruz, Bolivia, COPA and Air Boliviana. COPA is a Latin carrier, based in Panama City, Panama. For many folks this is the preferred carrier as they are partnered with United Airlines and offer service out of 6 major U.S. cities, connecting through Panama City and into Santa Cruz.  The COPA flight arrives into Santa Cruz about 9:30pm on the day of departure from the States and on the back end, departs Santa Cruz about 2:30am. If flying COPA you would require accommodations in Santa Cruz on both ends of the trip. Our partners would reserve your single or double rooms and you'd just pay the hotel directly upon check in as these rooms are not included in the trip fee.

The other option is Air Boliviana. This carrier departs Miami daily at 10:30pm, arriving into Santa Cruz at approximately 6:00am, the next day. On the flight home, Boliviana departs Santa Cruz at 10:30pm, back into Miami at 5:30am, next morning. Please note that the schedules for Boliviana are subject to occasional change.

For those making their own flight arrangements Trek suggests allowing a 4 hour connection time on both the outbound and return legs of your flights.

As of April 2021, shotgun permits will not be issued so there is no guarantee that you will be able to bring your shotgun into Bolivia this season.

Day 2: The Amazon Bolivia

If flying Boliviana you will arrive into Santa Cruz, Bolivia about 6am, and after clearing Immigration,  you will proceed to the baggage claim and then through Customs. You will exit the arrival terminal into an area where Felipe Molina will be on hand to assist you with your bags.

If flying COPA, about 7:30am, the group will be met at the hotel and be transfered across town to the domestic airport for your 2.5 hour charter flight north to the Cano Negro Lodge. Please try to travel with soft sided bags. Due to space considerations on these charter planes, we will provide you with soft bags in which you can load all of your fishing gear and then all of the hunting gear will be taken by road to Las Palomas and will be there when you arrive in a few days. Some guys opt to just pack 2 small bags, one with their fishing gear, the other with the hunting items they wish to bring.

You will arrive at Cano Negro about lunch time, so, you will have a bite to eat and then have time to unpack before pairing off and gearing up to fish the remainder of the day, returning to the lodge just after dusk.

Expert tips

As of September 21,  2021, the government of Bolivia is not issuing gun permits so, although this could change, we cannot promise that clients will be able to bring their own shotguns  in the 2023 season
