Tarangire National Park

Day notes

After a good breakfast at the lodge - we will head off in our safari vehicle to Tarangire National Park - Most of the drive to the park entrance is a good paved road, so its all comfortable and you will see more of rural life in Tanzania and the blend of cultures that live here. When we reach the park entrance we will have a short stop while the paperwork is done and then our wildlife viewing starts right from here.

We have no time pressure to get to camp as we will be travelling with a packed lunch so we can enjoy whatever sightings we have along the way - when we get to camp we can settle in and have some refreshments and time and energy permitting we can either go out for some safari time or just enjoy the view and wildlife sightings from the camp decking.

Tarangire National Park

Day notes

We have 2  full days to enjoy this beautiful park which has some really interesting scenery and species diversity. One of the outstanding features are the many baobab trees and herds of elephants and buffalo. You will also find some unusual species here as well like Lesser Kudu , Beisa Oryx and Dik-Dik.

We will also be able to do a night drive so we can look for some of the nocturnal animals that are not easy to see in the daytime, like Honey Badgers, Leopards, Genets, African Civet and Porcupine.

Day 4

Tue. 5 Jan 2021

Ngorongoro Crater

Day notes

This morning we will game drive our way from camp and out of the park. We then drive past Lake Manyara at the base of the Albertine Rift - we ascend quickly here up the side of the Rift and have some beautiful views over Lake Manyara. We continue on ascending through the rolling hills as we make our way to the Ngorongoro Crater, which is a very obvious feature towering over the surrounding hillsides.

We will have a short stop on the way at the entry to the conservation area of Ngorongoro where there will be a bit of paperwork to do while we have a look around at the excellent interpretive center.

We then continue ascending to the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater and an incredible view over the whole crater. We can stop here for a bit and have some refreshments before continuing on around the edge of the crater to our camp on the Northern edge of the crater.

Ngorongoro Crater

Day notes

This morning we will have an early start and make our way to the descent road that takes us down into the Ngorongoro crater - This is just the most incredible place that has to be seen to be believed and you will easily see why it is one of the natural wonders of the world.- The wildlife density in this massive caldera is amazing and the variety of habitats within it adds to the diversity we can see here. The large soda lake has flocks of Flamingoes striding around and the fresh water lakes have pods of hippo packed in. Black Rhino can be seen here and will be a focus for us to look for along with the many prides of lions, clans of hyenas, big tusker elephants, herds of buffalo, gazelles, wildebeest, zebra, eland, waterbuck and so the list goes on and on. We will also have a packed lunch with us so we can stop at one of the rest points and have a nice lunch and get straight back out there before returning to camp in the late afternoon.

Day 6

Thu. 7 Jan 2021

Northern Serengeti

Day notes

This morning after a nice breakfast in camp we will set off back down the Rift on the road we have already travelled to get to the airstrip at Lake Manyara. We then fly from here over the Serengeti plains to our camp up towards the North of the Park - We will be met here and then a short game drive transfer into camp which we should arrive at in time for lunch. We can then have a nice siesta and be ready for our afternoon game drive in search of the herds of wildebeest that are now massing in this area looking to cross the Mara River, one of the more famous scenes that you can see in Africa and you will be right there.

Day 7 - 9

8 Jan 2021 - 10 Jan 2021

Northern Serengeti

Day notes

3 Full days to explore the Northern and central plains and woodlands of the Serengeti. At this time of year the herds are very mobile crossing back and forwards over the Mara River - so the action can be in a completely different area each day as the animals look for fresh pasture all the while being hunted by the big cats and hyenas, it is incredible. Being up here in the North will give us access to the Central plains as well, so we will have vast areas to roam over in search of some amazing sightings in this famous wildlife area of Africa.

Day 10

Mon. 11 Jan 2021

End of Itinerary

Day notes

Our last morning on the Serengeti which can be either a relaxed and slow start so you are well rested for your journey home or we can have a usual early safari morning and make our way to the airstrip for the flight back to Kilimanjaro - This flight will land back there at about 13:00 so please arrange any onward flights for later in the day and if necessary we can arrange the day use of a room at a very nearby hotel.
