Wilderness Usawa - Ngarenanyuki/Gol Kopje Area | Eastern Serengeti

Imagine endless horizons, skies stretching over the grassland as far as the eye can see …

Every species in the Serengeti lives in perfect harmony with the one beside it. It is this balance, ‘usawa’ in Kiswahili, that ensures this phenomenal ecosystem functions in perfect symbiosis.

In northern Tanzania, Africa’s greatest spectacle unfolds. Two million wildebeest, zebra, Thomson’s gazelle, eland and other migratory animals graze, breed, and birth on the Serengeti’s plains; following the rains, moving as one. Prides of lion split the herds, taking down wildebeest and zebra. Cheetah chase down and tire out gazelles while crocodiles prey on the brave; those who dare to cross the rivers first. This scale of wildlife, of predator-prey interaction is found nowhere else on Earth.

Far from the crowds, Wilderness Usawa Serengeti's mobile camps are strategically located, moving to areas where the herds are as they follow the rain. With a number of sites available, positioned as close as is feasible to the action, in luxurious safari tents that leave no impact on the plains.

INSIDER’S TIP: Pack your walking shoes. All Wilderness Usawa Serengeti sites are positioned within designated walking zones, allowing walking safaris to begin right from camp.

Serengeti Safari Camp South | Ndutu

This is Nomad Tanzania’s pioneering mobile camp that moves seasonally to be in the best possible location to witness the great migration herds; still doing it in East African tented style with migration-chasing adventures.

Nomad Tanzania was among the first companies to start mobile safaris in the Greater Serengeti and is the only one that still moves camp 4 - 5 times a year to be in the best possible location to catch the action. The camp strikes a balance between comfort and mobility. Camp life is epitomised by early morning tea delivered to your tent, gin and tonics around the campfire, meals shared around a communal table and hot safari bucket showers before retiring to a cosy bed. Days are spent out in search of the herds and accompanying predators, possibly with a picnic breakfast or lunch.

Serengeti Safari Camp has just 6 open-plan walk-in meru tents, with an en-suite bathroom at the rear. One of these tents is a family tent with two bedrooms and an adjoining sitting area.

Entamanu Ngorongoro | Ngorongoro Crater

Perched high on the wild side of the Ngorongoro Crater rim, Nomad’s Entamanu Ngorongoro is a thoughtfully designed refuge in this elemental place, from which to explore the unique highland environment. Surrounded by the soaring peaks of dormant volcanic hills and the ebb and flow of Maasai pastoralist life, this is a place to explore beyond the hustle and bustle of the tourist trail. Not only to visit the Crater, but to understand it as part of a wider environment.

Seven large en-suite cottage-style rooms and three two bedroom cottages made cosy with heaters, warm textiles and sheepskin look across the iconic Crater view, with a backdrop of ancient acacia trees. The style here is as unique as the location - everything carefully handcrafted locally to the highest standard.

There’s nothing tame about this location – the high altitude sun has some real heat and the wind can be biting and sometimes noisy. Nomad Tanzania have taken up the challenge to create a camp that makes the most of the extraordinary view while providing warmth and shelter from the elements, while being entirely removable. Every design detail has been considered in light of this, while still providing comfort in this elemental place.
