Okaukuejo Camp | Etosha South

Okaukuejo is located 17 km from the southern entrance of the park, Anderson Gate. Okaukuejo is the oldest tourist camp in Etosha and it also functions as the administrative centre of the park. Okaukuejo is also home to the Etosha Ecological Institute. It is situated at the western end of the Etosha Pan. Facilities include a restaurant, bar, shop, swimming pool, kiosk and camp sites. The main attraction of this camp is that it overlooks a permanent waterhole which is floodlit at night. Here a wide diversity of wildlife congregate and interact from lion to rhino to elephant and antelope. The spectacle starts at dawn, with animals coming in large numbers to quench their thirst. The activity continues throughout the day until late at night. In the early evenings, it is not uncommon to have black rhino, elephant and lion all drinking at the same time.

Okonjima Camping | Okonjima Nature Reserve

As well as offering a range of accommodation, Okonjima is home to the AfriCat Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and conservation of cheetahs and leopards in Namibia. Since 1993, over 1,000 big cats have been rescued and 86% of them have been released back into the wild. Visit Okonjima – which means “place of baboons” in Herero – home of the AfriCat Foundation and the Hansen family business.

Situated in the Okonjima Nature Reserve, located between Windhoek and the Etosha National Park, Okonjima Camping Site rests at the foot of the Ombokoro Mountains with fantastic sundowner viewpoints. The campsites are partially equipped with a fixed light and multipurpose power point, private undercover hot-water showers, flush toilets, and a covered washing-up area. The remaining facilities at the Camp include a swimming pool and curio shop. Meals can be reserved at any one of Okonjima’s Lodges at the Information centre.
