Verlorenkloof Lodge

Verlorenkloof Lodge, a hidden gem in the heart of the Eastern province of Mpumalanga, offers a variety of nature-centered activities for the discerning traveler. 3.5 hours drive from Johannesburg or 1.5 hours drive from Nelspruit airport, the rich cultural history and ecological diversity begs a day or three to stop over, to explore, and absorb the magic.

Situated in a beautifully secluded valley along the Eastern escarpment of the province, the Crocodile River forms a natural border to Verlorenkloof. The land then sweeps up through wetland and open grassland to the forested kloofs of the Steenkampsberg and the Dullstroom highlands, creating a biodiverse landscape that is a joy to visit in any season.
Ruins left by the Koni people, an extinct tribe who inhabited the valley during the late Iron age (1500-1830)AD. depict a heritage of rich, intricate stone walls, and terraces.
The Today of Verlorenkloof is represented first and fore-mostly by the warmth and friendliness of the re-instated indigenous people now employed at the Lodge. The lodgings are warm, comfortable large and invite guests to relax and savour the serene environment. This is a popular destination for Hikers, bird watching enthusiasts, and naturalists.
