Cultural and Community Visits
While staying at Roca River Camp, guests have the opportunity to connect with the Maasai communities who have lived alongside and cared for the Mara ecosystem for generations. Visit a local village and manyatta, meet community members and learn more about traditional Maasai life, culture and the close relationship between people, livestock and the surrounding wilderness.
Guests can also meet local Maasai women and discover their beautiful, intricate beadwork. There is an opportunity to purchase handmade jewellery and other beaded pieces directly from local artisans, providing a meaningful connection to the community and a special keepsake to take home from your safari.







Hot Air Balloon
Experience the Maasai Mara from a completely different perspective with a hot air balloon safari. At Roca River Camp, guests can fly with Governor’s Balloon Safaris — the original and one of the most renowned ballooning experiences in the Mara. From the sky, take in breathtaking views across the Mara plains, winding rivers and forests as the landscape comes alive beneath you.
The early-morning adventure begins with a sunrise flight over the Mara, followed by a champagne breakfast served on the plains. Roca River Camp is ideally positioned for the closest and most direct route to the balloon launch site allowing guests to enjoy more time in the air and less time travelling before take-off.
