Rwanda has done an excellent job in stopping the further depletion of its forest areas and rehabilitating the Akagera National Park which had largely become a cattle grazing area. This is now back to being a fully functioning wildlife area with growing numbers and diversity of wildlife all thriving in this beautiful national park.
Volcanoes National Park is part of an extremely important protected mountain forest area that straddles the DRC, Rwanda and Uganda, and is the last remaining refuge for the Mountain Gorillas and where the bulk of the habituated gorilla population lives. During your time here you will also get to see other primates resident in this mountain forest habitat like the beautiful golden monkeys.
