After clearing the entry formalities for Rwanda you will be met by your driver guide who will be escorting you through your safari in Rwanda.
You have a short transfer to the hotel where you can relax and get yourself acclimatised to being at this altitude in Africa before setting off on saafri the following day.
Your drive to Akagera is not a long one and will take you through this densely populated country on a good paved road which you will quickly see why it is called "the land of a thousand hills". You should arrive at the camp in time for lunch so you can get settled in and be ready for your afternoon safari activity.
This park is a new success story for Rwanda and the African parks team who have resurrected this park to showcase and protect this unique habitat along the rift valley of Africa and the largest protected wetland in Centeral Africa. Species here are typical of the Savannah biomes and include Rhino, Lions, Buffalo, Waterbuck, Kob, Reedbuck, Giraffe and many more. You will also be able to do a boat cruise on Lake Ihema Ihema to look out for the beautiful birdlife along with crocodiles and hippos.
You go back through Kigali where you will stop for lunch and then onwards to the town of Ruhengeri which sits at the entry to Volcanoes National Park. This is will give you easy access to the start point for your gorilla treks which start in the early morning from the park entrance after a short briefing regarding the whole experience and what to do when around gorillas.
You have two gorilla permits which will allow you to visit different families on each day, which is important so you get the best from this magical experience. Each permit gives you one hour with the gorillas.
Today you will drive back to Kigali and included will be a city tour that will include the museums in Kigali, this will all be timed to suit your International Departures from Kigali
