Sample Selenkay Adventure Camping & Migration Safari in Kenya

Introduction

Discover Amboseli and the Masai Mara, staying away from the minibus pressure points. And at a price point that everyone can feel comfortable with!  If there is a trend toward ever-more luxurious safaris, there is also an equally compelling movement back toward more pared-down, old school and (let's face it) affordable safaris. Selenkay & Ol Kinyei Adventure Camping Kenya fits the bill for this perfectly. This is a high quality safari. But with simple accommodation.

Affordable and Exclusive

Typically, the more exclusive, small and/or remote the game-viewing experience, the more costly it is. But there are a few exceptions. Some of the newer, more innovative Masaai community conservation initatives make it possible to avoid hordes of other minibuses. You can stay under canvas for that really authentic bush experience. And keep to a budget, all while supporting a more sustainable form of tourism. One that puts the local people at the heart of the operation.

The Adventure Camping Experience

  • The Adventure Camps are sited in private conservancies (Selenkay & Ol Klinyei Conservancies) with a wealth of wildlife and where you can go on walks with Maasai guides and take night drives but they are also conveniently located for easy access to the Maasai Mara Reserve and Amboseli National Park. Excellent Maasai guides and spotters look after you, with game drives in open-sided 4x4 safari vehicles, guided walks and night game drives. BUT but at a hugely reduced price!
  • An experienced safari cook is at the camp to prepare the daily meals. Food is of the same quality as in a luxury safari camp and is included in the price. (It is not bought through a 'kitty' like some other camping safaris).
  • The camp is hosted by the safari guide. At each safari camp site there are service staff who do all the work associated with camping, like washing up, heating water for showers, doing the cooking and serving the food.
  • So really it is only the tents themselves that are simple! Instead of staying in luxury tented camps, here you stay in small basic adventure camps that consist of 2-man dome tents. Tents are Coleman Sundome tents for one or two people. They are 6 ft tall and 10ft x 10ft square. You bring your own sleeping bag and a towel. You sleep on comfortable mattresses on the tent floor. Plus each tent has its own private bathroom in a cubicle located behind the tent with flush toilet, wash basin and hot water safari shower.
