Visit the last remaining owner-run camps - the Legends of Zambia. Start and end in Lusaka.
HIGHIGHTS:
- Unique, owner-run camps that are personal and intimate
- A diverse wildlife experience, large to small!
- Variety of safari activities including 4x4 day & night game drives, walking safaris, canoeing and fishing
APRIL - JUNE: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
The rains gradually subside from April and camps begin to open. By May the landscape is looking lush and green, and June is a lovely time to be on safari as temperatures are extremely comfortable especially for walking safaris. The grass is now flatter and the bush opens up offering better visibility. Wildlife sightings are beginning to be very good.
The Bushcamps start opening from 16 April | Chiawa Camp & Old Mondoro open 24 April
JULY - SEPTEMBER: PEAK SEASON
Superb time for Zambia, especially for the walking safari enthusiasts, as the temperatures are still moderate to make walking comfortable (especially in July and August). Game viewing is excellent, but as the camps operate such a limited season and this is the peak period, spaces fill up well in advance. We suggest planning ahead to ensure the ultimate Zambian safari.
OCTOBER - DECEMBER: THE SEASON IS COMING TO AN END
Before the November rains the temperatures start to climb: the lower-lying valleys, Lower Zambezi and Luangwa Valley, can get very hot in October. The wildlife sightings are, however, superb as animals start to keep close to water sources. This is when the Lower Zambezi and Luangwa come into their own as they both have rivers as the central attractions and this becomes safari mania.
Old Mondoro closes 14 November | Chiawa Camp closes 21 November | The Bushcamps start to close from 1 November - selected camps are open until 6 January
