Nicaragua Dove - Mombacho Lodge

Thanks for choosing Trek to serve as your agent in planning your Nicaragua white wing hunt. We have designed a five day, four night adventure with three days of fast paced white wing shooting.

Upon arriving in Managua, Nicaragua, you will proceed to immigrations where they will check and stamp your passport before claiming your luggage. After passing through immigration and clearing customs, you will find a member of the Mombacho Lodge staff waiting to assist you with your bags, before exiting the airport. Those booked on Wednesday-Sunday trips will spend their first evening in the historic town of Granada and move to the lodge on Thursday morning. This night in Granada is not included in the normal trip fee, but rooms are very reasonable and Granada is a fun little city and well worth the visit.

It is a 45 minute drive from the airport to the Mombacho Lodge, one mile outside the town of Granada. We have an air conditioned van to make the drive on good paved roads. You will be greeted at the lodge with the customary Rum-Rita and will be directed to your room. After you get checked into your room the rest of the afternoon is free to get un-packed and organized for the follow three days of shooting. The lodge has a well stocked bar for those who would like a drink before dinner which is typically served at 7:00pm. Your hosts will be lodge owner Bruno Taino, or one, or both, of his sons, Frederico and Carlo.

The Hunting:

We will have 3 full days of hunting on this trip, with separate hunts each morning and afternoon. Our staff will let you know every evening the time at which the group will leave for the next mornings hunt. We’ll have wake-up call and breakfast about 5:30am, planning to leave for the hunts by 6:15am. Most drives to the fields are 30-60 minutes.

Shooting is generally over by 9:00-9:30 a.m., at that time, we will head back to the lodge for a swim, an excellent lunch and siesta. Around 12:30 p.m., we will depart the lodge for the afternoon hunt.

We will be shooting white wing dove. On some days, you might shoot a sorghum field or a roost. On others, we’ll attempt a flyway or water hole. The roosts and fields normally produce excellent white wing dove hunts during the afternoon hours. We normally have good steady shooting for a couple of hours and most hunters can expect to fire 6-8 boxes of shells each hunt, though some have shot even more. The afternoon shooting typically lasts until just before sunset, putting you back at the lodge just after dark. Your group will have time for a shower, cocktail and appetizers around the pool while dinner is being prepared.

Each hunter will have a pick-up boy for the duration of the trip, but you may request a second. All meals at the lodge are excellent, and are specially prepared for your group. On the last day of the trip we will have breakfast then drive back to Managua to catch the group’s flights home.

Our outfitter offers a number of guns to loan while in Nicaragua.  The assortments of shotguns are 12-gauge Beretta A-300's with over a dozen Franchi Affinity 3, 20-gauge in

Accommodations:

The Mombacho lodge will accommodate 11 shooters in air conditioned, single room comfort. The two separate wings surround a small swimming pool and courtyard gazebo. The well stocked bar and upstairs, open air restaurant are always a hit as they afford a great view of the surrounding countryside and the lodges namesake, Mombacho volcano. The cooling breezes from both the Pacific and nearby Lake Nicaragua, make it very comfortable to relax up there in the evenings. The meals at the lodge are well balanced with choices of excellent local meats, seafood, pasta and game.
