Introduction

This holiday itinerary was created for a couple seeking an authentic and adventurous gorilla and safari experience because they valued time with the endangered species of Africa. Here's what they had to say upon their return:

"Everything went to plan and smoothly and honestly, I can’t tell you all enough what a magnificent time we had!

Rwanda was amazing. We fell in love with the country. Our guide Eric, from Magic Tours, was a treasure. It was like he was on holidays with us. He provided a fabulous service and we felt very comfortable being in his hands. The car was comfortable and roomy too and he drove safely at all times. The accommodations in Rwanda were all of a very good standard. Our stay at lake Kivu was a lovely surprise too! The treks to the gorillas was fabulous and awe inspiring.

The Kenyan component of our holiday was magnificent. Both Saruni lodges/camps were of a very high standard and we really enjoyed being in both Samburu and Rhino. The quality of the accommodations definitely 5 star as every comfort was thought of. At Samburu the leopards meandered thought the night and the hyraxes screamed their little hearts out. I loved it!! I would say the Saruni Rhino camp, being very much in the bush, may not be to everyone’s liking. We loved it and would happily go back. It was a very special camp indeed. Sammy our guide was one god’s gifts to the world. Such a beautiful, thoughtful, knowledgeable young man. Wow- we really enjoyed being and learning from him. The Rhino tracking was one of the most exhilarating things I have ever done. What a privilege to be so close to them and to watch them in the bush. One came so very close to us…Sammy whispered “don’t panic!” as the Rhino charged up at as and then took a sharp left! Oblivious to the fact we were hiding behind the tree. Honestly never would I have imagined I could get that close and hear the earth vibrate as a 600kg rhino charged by. A story for dinner parties for many years to come.

Sammy also took us to the Reteti elephant orphanage in Namanyuk Conservancy. It was a 2 hour drive from Rhino camp, but it was well worth the trip. What a privilege to be able to see the work being done here, the beautiful little elephants and the very new, 2 month old baby Rhino who was born in the Sera Conservancy, and the fenced area where we did our Rhino tracking.

Elsa’s Kopje was wonderful. Quite different in feel to the Saruni lodges. More classic. George and Teresa the managers really looked after us. They and their staff were incredibly welcoming. The food was wonderful too and it was nice to be able to actually have time in the camp to enjoy the facilities or views.

Thanks for providing an incredible service yet again. I have now recommended Encompass to at least 4 other friends/colleagues as I totally trust and believe that the service you provide is fabulous. Thank you! I can’t wait to get organising our next trip…if I had it my way, it would be for next year!!"
