Introduction

27 Feb 2025 - 5 Mar 2025

Join us for a green-season birding adventure in the heart of the Waterberg, South Africa.

This exclusive 6-night group tour, designed for birders (both novice and experienced), will take you on a spectacular journey through the stunning Welgevonden Game Reserve. Welgevonden is globally recognized for its excellent bird diversity, with over 400 species on the list.

Your expert guide, John Kinghorn from BirdLife South Africa, will lead the way. BirdLife South Africa is a leading conservation organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of the country's birdlife. With John’s extensive knowledge and passion for birds, you'll not only see a vast array of unique species but also deepen your understanding of their behaviours and habitats.

You'll stay in two luxury Welgevonden lodges, where comfort meets wilderness, and each day will be spent exploring this world-renowned birding haven.

Birders will have the opportunity to connect with highly-sought after South African specials, including the likes of African Finfoot, Martial Eagle, Secretarybird, Denham’s Bustard, Black Stork, Verreaux’s Eagle and White-bellied Korhaan to name a select few. The nearby Cape Vulture colony (estimated 800 pairs) is the largest in the world and birders will be treated to breath-taking views of this now Endangered species.

Other notable complimentary birding highlights include Short-toed Rock Thrush, Flappet Lark, White-fronted, Little and Southern Carmine Bee-eaters, Half-collared Kingfisher, Striped Kingfisher, and Bushveld Pipit.

Birders will enjoy an exclusive, peaceful experience whilst at sightings - only a limited number of guests are allowed in at one time - and should they wish to break from their time behind their binoculars, can choose from a wide range of other activities including game drives, guided walks, star gazing, and rock art tours.

WildEarth Travel will donate a portion of the trip’s proceeds to support BirdLife South Africa’s vital conservation work making this a unique opportunity for travellers to give back to vital bird conservation efforts,

Whether you're an avid birder looking to expand your life list or simply a nature lover, this birding safari promises a once-in-a-lifetime experience and is the perfect introduction for birders looking to experience South Africa’s vast avifaunal diversity.
