Gorongosa National Park is essentially a privately run park and one of the wonderful success stories we see in Africa when private enterprise meets conservation. The Greg Carr Foundation supported by a number of other individuals and NGO's have done a great job in restoring this park not only within it's borders but also given some positive opportunities to the surrounding communities to uplift their lives, like their coffee farming project and various schools in the area. Be sure to get yourself a bag of their coffee or beautiful honey when you travel here.
From a pure safari perspective this a very comfortable and new camp in a gorgeous setting with a great team of guides to show you the range of habitats here and experience the extraordinary density of wildlife, it is one of the parks that you will struggle to find a time when you cant see an animal. For the birders you will get some good ticks here with such a variety of habitats so make sure you are prepared for some serious twitching.
This safari can be combined with beach destinations like Vilanculos or Maputo Reserve along the coastline.
