Mexico - La Finca Lodge Duck & Quail

Trek Safaris is thankful you have chosen us to act as your agent for this wonderful duck and quail hunt at La Finca Lodge in San Fernando Mexico. The two standard trips are either four nights and three days of hunting OR three nights with two full and two half days of hunting. Included in your trip fee are your hunting, rental guns, lodging at La Finca Lodge with meals and bar, hunting license and transportation to/from Brownsville. We recognize your trip may be customized and should be confirmed with a letter by our office. The following pages are meant to serve as your guide for both preparation and while on the trip. THE HUNTING

Groups staying at La Finca Lodge will be duck hunting on the Laguna Madre where over 3 million diver and puddle ducks migrate each winter. Sights of Redheads covering the sky waiting to decoy into spreads are very common on the Madre.

You will have six total hunts on your trip with a mix of ducks and quail. This area is home to some of the best WILD quail hunting in the world with dozens of Bob White coveys littered across hedgerows. All in all, this is a true mixed bag hunt!

On any give day, you may drive out to one of the numerous freshwater ponds near La Finca, or head to the Laguna Madre and board the boat for a trip out to this saltwater expanse. Once in the blinds, you will see a mix of redhead, widgeon, and plenty of pintails. Blinds are normally bench style with solid footing OR you may be standing on a pallet blind located near one of the many island points where pass shooting in furious and fun. Quail will be hunted traditional style walking hedgerows and flushing birds where most groups will get 12-15 flushes per hunt. These are 100% wild quail and once they are in the air, they are very challenging to hit! The hunt will not use bird dogs rather the bird boys will walk along flushing quail. We suggest bringing snake chaps or snake boots as there is a chance you will come across a snake in the thick brush.

ACCOMMODATIONS

La Finca Lodge has 14 rooms all with private bathrooms. Rooms are comfortable, clean, air-conditioned and the lodge has full WiFi service. A large dining room and full bar round out the lodge along with a game area and two lounges. The lodge has WiFi Internet service and satellite TV to keep in touch with the world. While there is full bar stocked with quality name brand liquors, you may still have a preference that is not provided. For this, we suggest stopping at the duty free shop near the border in Brownsville to pick-up your favorite brand. You will not need specific adapters for your electronics, as the lodge is 110V wired. The food at La Finca is very good and a wide variety is prepared during your stay. We have bottled water for drinking and the ice is perfectly safe to use in drinks as all ice is filtered. Please do not drink the tap water and use bottled water for brushing your teeth.
