This tour is an 8-day exploration specifically designed for those visiting the tenth largest urban area in Africa and the oldest in South Africa, and those with an enquiring mind or perhaps a family on an educational journey. Jan van Riebeeck’s arrival on the shore of Table Bay, on 6 April 1652, established the VOC Cape Colony. Thus, Cape Town was developed by the Dutch East India Africa trading company as a supply station for Dutch ships sailing to East Africa, India and the Far East. It outgrew its original purpose as the first European outpost at the Castle of Good Hope, becoming the economic and cultural hub of the Cape Colony. In fact, until the Witwatersrand Gold Rush and development of Johannesburg, Cape Town was the largest city in South Africa. Cape Town has a unique blend of cultures based primarily on Dutch, British and Cape Malay influences and is fondly known as the Mother City.
