Brasilia

Days 7 - 9

The capital of Brazil, Brasilia is the country’s fourth-largest city, located in the Central-West region. It is a relatively young metropolis, which was established in just a few years and replaced Rio de Janeiro as the capital in 1960, but is the seat of all three branches of the Brazilian government. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1987 for its contemporary architecture and urban planning, the city’s highlights include the Sanctuario Dom Bosco, with its series of cobalt-blue stained glass windows, the modernist Church of Lady Fatima, and the Parque Rogério Phyton Farias, Brazil’s park, complete with a lake, a swimming pool with artificial waves, and an array of sports grounds. According to legend, Italian saint Don Bosco had a dream in 1883 in which he described a futuristic city that roughly fitted Brasília's location.
