Rio Grande

Days 1 - 2

Rio Grande is a town at the mouth of the Grande River on the northeast coast of Isla Grande Tierra del Fuego - the largest of the islands in Patagonia’s Tierra del Fuego archipelago. Founded as a sheep farming town in the early 1900s, it has grown into the island’s largest city after Ushuaia, and is its industrial hub, as well as the site of the Hermes Quijada International Airport. Just nine kilometres off the coast of Rio Grande lies Los Lobos Island, home to colonies of sea lions, fur seals and elephant seals. Further inland, visitors can enjoy trekking, horse riding and fly fishing at various trout-rich spots upriver.
