It is the major metropolitan hub on on the San Jorge Gulf and home to the National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco. The town has a fascinating history - founded in 1901, it was initially a magnet for Welsh settlers, as well as South African farmers fleeing British rule, while later reaped it riches when vast oil reserves were discovered here. Today, Comodoro Rivadavia is a visitor’s playground that is home to several casinos and just a short drive from the beach resort of Rada Tilly, a popular summer vacation destination.
