Meet and Greet
Today you travel to the southern Kunene region of Namibia, also known as Damaraland. Once inhabited by hunters and later by Khoikhoi pastoralists, you will embark on a historical and cultural journey during your stay and be impressed by ancient artifacts.
The drive from Twyfelfontein to Palmwag offers a scenic journey through Namibia's rugged Damaraland region. Covering roughly 90 km (about 2 hours), the route winds through arid landscapes, red sandstone formations, and dry riverbeds. Along the way, you may spot desert-adapted wildlife such as springbok or even elephants. The road is mostly gravel, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. The journey ends at Palmwag, an oasis-like lodge area known for its palm-lined springs and access to the Palmwag Concession wilderness.
Epupa Falls is a scenic series of waterfalls on the Kunene River along the border between Namibia and Angola. Surrounded by baobab and palm trees, the falls drop about 40 meters and create a peaceful landscape of cascading water and rocky islands. The area is also home to the semi-nomadic Himba people, making Epupa Falls both a natural and cultural attraction in northern Namibia. In addition to peace and relaxation, guided hikes can be enjoyed with local bird life spotting or for the more adventurous a rafting tour can be undertaken.
A historically and culturally significant region primarily inhabited by the Ovambo people, the country's largest ethnic group. Known for its vibrant culture, traditional leadership, and communal lifestyle, Ovamboland remains a vital center of Namibian identity and rural life. The region is also notable for its agriculture, especially mahangu (pearl millet) farming.
You will spend the next few days extensively with spectacular game viewing in Etosha National Park. During a day game drive, explore the amazing wildlife from an open safari vehicle. Refreshments, snacks and entry to the national park are included. During your safari, learn many fascinating details about Etosha as a habitat. Alongside lions, elephants, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas, Etosha is home to one of the most stable black rhino populations in the world. The most famous Etosha Pan - a flat salt pan covering an area of 5,000 square kilometers - lies in the heart of the park.
The drive from Etosha King Nehale Gate to Waterberg Wilderness Reserve offers a scenic transition from the vast savannahs of Etosha National Park to the striking red sandstone cliffs of the Waterberg Plateau. Covering approximately 350 km (around 4 to 5 hours of driving), the journey takes you south through Namibia’s rural heartland, passing small towns like Tsumeb and Otjiwarongo, with opportunities to spot wildlife and enjoy wide-open landscapes. The route is mostly on well-maintained tar roads, making for a comfortable and visually rewarding trip.
Your last stop is Windhoek. During an optional city tour in the afternoon, you will explore some of the most important highlights of the former colonial city and delve into the city's modern history with sights such as the Tintenpalast, the Christuskirche, the old fortresses, the Imperial Secondary School and Heinitzburg and Sanderburg.
Drive to the airport and return of rental car. Check-in for your flight back home.
