Day 1: Cape Town

On arrival at Cape Town International airport you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Cape Town

Today you will be taken on a half day City Orientation Tour to learn all about Cape Town’s rich history and vibrant cultures. Visit the beautiful Company Gardens and do some shopping for African arts and crafts at the vibrant Greenmarket Square and soak up the lively atmosphere. You will also visit the colourful Bo Kaap area, previously known as the Malay Quarter, situated on the slopes of Signal Hill this is the spiritual home of Cape Town’s Muslim community. The area is most famous for its brightly painted houses making for lovely photos.

We then take a trip up Cape Town’s landmark and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Table Mountain. A 5-minute cableway ride takes you to the top of the mountain from where you will enjoy uninterrupted views over the city bowl and across the peninsula.

We recommend you spend the rest of the afternoon and evening at the V&A Waterfront.

Day 3: Cape Town

Travel along the Atlantic Seaboard to Hout Bay, passing magnificent beaches and the coastal suburbs of Clifton, Camps Bay and Llandadno. We meet the locals at Imizamo Yethu Township and visit the Original T-Bag Design company - you will leave with a sense of ubuntu – a South African term for essential human virtues, compassion and humanity. 

From Hout Bay Harbour you have the option of a boat trip to Duiker Island (for your own account), to see the thousands of Cape Fur Seals living on this rocky outcrop. Hout Bay Harbour is a busy fishing harbour sure to keep you entertained and your cameras snapping. Browse for souvenirs at the Hout Bay Craft Market or take a walk on the beach and paddle your feet in the sea.

The tour continues over Chapman’s Peak, known as one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the world, all the way along the Peninsula, through the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and to the most southern tip at Cape Point. An invigorating walk takes you to the two lighthouses at the top and bottom of the headland, from where you will enjoy extraordinary views of the cliffs and the ocean below. Take a photo down at the most south western point of the African continent at the Cape of Good Hope beach.

Lunch will be enjoyed at a seaside restaurant (for your own account) before we make our way along the False Bay coastline to the Naval suburb of Simon’s Town. We will visit the delightful African Penguins of Boulders Beach and then the drive takes us back to the hotel via Cape Town’s coastal and southern suburbs.

Day 4: Cape Town

Your guide will collect you in the morning for a full day on the West Coast. Starting at the !Khwa ttu San center you will get a fascinating insight into the culture, heritage, knowledge and modern-day life of the San of Southern Africa. Your San guide will lead you through a truly exceptional experience by foot or bicycle. During the tour the San will demonstrate their skills, share their ancient knowledge about oral history, tracking animals and identifying plants with you. They will also teach you words in some of their languages and enlighten you about recent achievements in obtaining their rights to land and intellectual property.

We stay for lunch (own cost) in the restaurant serving fresh food sourced locally and free range meat. On the way back to Cape Town, we stop at Groote Post Wine farm for a wine tasting.

Day 5: De Kelders

After breakfast and check out, your guide will meet you for an approx 2-3 hour scenic transfer to Hermanus. 

Optional 2 hour whale (season June to December) watching boat excursion. Spend some time exploring the village of Hermanus before checking in your guest house situated on the rocks of De Kelders.

Day 6: De Kelders

Optional shark cage diving in the morning.

Rest of the day at leisure to explore the area with your guide.

Day 7: De Kelders

Spend a relaxing day enjoying the white sand dunes, deserted beaches, rugged coastline, cliffs, hiking or just watch the ocean from the veranda and marvel at whales during the season.

Day 8: Timbavati Private Nature Reserve

Your guide will collect you and take you to Cape Town airport for your flight to the Greater Kruger Area. At Hoedspruit airport, you will be met and transferred into Timbavati and Umlani Bush Lodge.

Enjoy a late lunch (depending on arrival time) followed by an afternoon game drive. 

Activities and Services

Day 9: Timbavati Private Nature Reserve

You will be taken out on two game drives per day, in open top 4 wheel drive vehicles. The morning game drive will leave at dawn and the night drive will leave in the late afternoon. There is always a ranger on stand-by for an optional morning bush walk.

During the day you can go on short walks with the ranger after breakfast, or lounge in the hammocks around the swimming pool sipping your favourite drink. Alternatively, laze away the day in the spacious bush bar and deck overlooking the riverbed and watering hole. For exclusive tranquillity there is a tree house about 2.5 kms from the camp overlooking a dam, where you can spend an hour or two with blankets and big comfortable pillows as well as a cooler box with drinks.

In the evening you will be treated to pre dinner drinks in the traditional boma around the fire, followed by one of Umlani's award winning meals in the candlelit dining room, or out in the open riverbed surrounded by flares and cauldron fires.

Day 10: Timbavati Private Nature Reserve

Another full day at the lodge.

Day 11: End of Itinerary

Today after your morning game drive (time depending) you will be transferred back to Hoedspruit for your flight to Johannesburg or Cape Town for departure.
