Chapman himself was something of a rogue - said by some to be the man on whom the film character 'Indiana Jones' was based. He lived an adventurous, self-aggrandizing life across much of this part of the world. At Bayanzag it is the landscape, in addition to the rich dinosaur history, which is very impressive - an intense evocation of Mongolia's great emptiness.

The drive to the dunes at Khongoriin takes some 4-5 hrs one way, passing through vast desert badlands that span out into the furthest distances, where remote mountains line the horizon. Lone gers and nomads on camelback hang suspended in the mirages, whilst the desert floor is strewn with a range of colorful rocks and unusual minerals. This is the Gobi at its stark best - there are many opportunities to stop and take photographs of the landscapes and people. Arrive and lunch at the ger camp near the dunes. Visit the beautiful sand dunes, walk the sand dunes and the Khongor oasis. Visit a camel breeder’s family and see their lifestyle, and try a short camel ride along the dunes. In the early evening, you will be transferred back to the lodge. Three Camel Lodge Deluxe Ger

An extensive dune formation, Khongor Els runs for 130 kilometers across the front of the Gobi-Altai mountains - formed by deposits of sand dropped into the lee of the mountains by centuries of storms. The dunes, rising to heights of 2600 feet, stand out in light sinuous sand shapes against the dark rock of the mountain and the surrounding desert plain, At the base of the dunes runs a sacred river, bringing a flourish of green growth to the desert scene - the nomads bring their herds of cashmere goat and horses to drink at this oasis.

The protected area safeguards the Mongolian portion of a largely undisturbed part of the vast Gobi Desert and provides a last refuge for representatives of the ancient terrestrial fauna of Central Asia with over 620 species of flowering plants and 38 endemic species. 52 species of mammals are found here inclusive of eight species listed in the Mongolian Red Book as endangered. Day 30: Belize

Free time to enjoy your private resort.

Optional Activities: Belize is home to the longest barrier reef system in the Northern and Western Hemispheres, and its stunning central section lies right in our back yard. Snorkeling merely requires a few fin kicks from the beach outside your villa, or let your island host arrange a trip to nearby Gladden Spit and the Silk Cayes Marine Reserve for some of the best scuba diving in the world. From April through June, whale sharks congregate in this protected area, offering the rare chance to swim with these gentle giants, the largest fish in the sea. Outside of the marine preserve, spear fishing and deep-sea fishing are available.

An easy boat ride away from Gladden Caye is Placencia Village, a palm-fringed town at the end of a 17-mile peninsula with relaxed restaurants, bars and a casino. Placencia serves as a convenient gateway to tour Belize’s rich inner terrain: jungles filled with more than 570 species of birds, towering waterfalls and ancient Mayan Ruins. The region is also home to Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, the world’s only jaguar preserve. While away a day ambling in the rainforest or get your heart racing with cave tubing or zip lining. Our concierge can arrange any type of off-island excursion.
