Day notes
Today your safari journey begins and you head north with your own private guide and vehicle, by road, passing through rural Uganda and vibrant roadside scenes en route to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Here, on foot and accompanied by experienced rangers, you track white rhino through the bush, a rare opportunity in Uganda and an important conservation success story. After lunch, the drive continues to Budongo Forest, arriving at Pabidi Lodge, where the environment shifts dramatically from open savanna to dense tropical forest.
Budongo Forest is one of Uganda’s most important primate habitats, and the following day is dedicated to chimpanzee tracking. Setting out on foot with expert guides, you venture into the forest in search of habituated chimpanzee troops, often hearing them before seeing them as they move through the canopy. The experience is both intimate and energetic, offering a fascinating insight into their behaviour and social dynamics. Outside of the chimpanzees, the forest is rich in birdlife and other primates, and the overall atmosphere is one of complete immersion in nature. The afternoon is left free to relax at the lodge, surrounded by the sounds of the forest.

From Budongo, the safari transitions into the wider Murchison Falls National Park, with a game drive en route to Kulu Ora Lodge. This shift introduces Uganda’s classic savanna wildlife, with chances to see elephants, giraffes, buffalo and, with luck, lions. Kulu Ora sits in a remote and exclusive part of the park along the Nile, offering a sense of seclusion and a more private safari experience. Over the next two days, activities are varied and flexible, including game drives, guided walks, night drives and time spent along the river. The landscape here is particularly striking, with the Nile threading through the park, creating a lifeline for wildlife and a constant focal point for the experience. Evenings are often spent enjoying sundowners or bush dinners, adding to the sense of wilderness and atmosphere. You have a really good chance of seeing Uganda's famous tree-climbing lions.

The journey then continues deeper into the park towards Nile Safari Lodge, with a stop at the top of Murchison Falls along the way. Here, the Nile is forced through a narrow gorge, creating one of Africa’s most powerful and dramatic waterfalls. A guided walk allows you to fully appreciate the force and scale of the water as it crashes through the rock below. After arriving at Nile Safari Lodge, the experience becomes slightly more relaxed and indulgent, with the lodge’s riverfront setting providing a beautiful base for the final part of the safari. That afternoon, a private boat cruise on the Nile offers a different perspective, drifting past hippos, crocodiles and abundant birdlife, and a view of Murchison Falls from below - often accompanied by golden afternoon light and ending with a sundowner on the water.
The following day is spent exploring the park further with morning and afternoon game drives, allowing time to seek out species not yet seen and to enjoy the rhythm of safari life. The combination of river, savanna and forest environments makes this one of Uganda’s most diverse wildlife areas, and the slower pace here provides a fitting conclusion to the journey.
