Pabidi Lodge | Murchison Falls National Park
PABIDI LODGE IS A NEWLY DEVELOPED, INTIMATE SAFARI PROPERTY SET WITHIN THE ANCIENT BUDONGO FOREST ON THE SOUTHERN EDGE OF MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK. IT WAS ONE OF OUR FAVOURITE LODGES ON A RECENT TRIP, DESIGNED AS A QUIET, IMMERSIVE RETREAT, WITH ACCESS TO ONE OF UGANDA’S RICHEST RAINFOREST ECOSYSTEMS AND OF COURSE CHIMP TREKKING. THE LODGE IS SUPER STYLISH AND BLENDS LUXURY WITH NATURE, CREATING A SEAMLESS CONNECTION BETWEEN FOREST, WILDLIFE AND CONTEMPORARY COMFORT.
The design of Pabidi Lodge is modern and fairly understated, relatively environmentally sensitive although indigenous forest was cleared to build the lodge. Structures are well-designed and blend into the canopy, creating a feeling of being enveloped by the forest. Communal areas are bright and sunny with earthy textures and rock finishes that enhance the sense of calm, all of which look over the swimming pool out into the forest - it is stunning. Features such as a firepit are traditional safari elements that encourage a relaxed, contemplative atmosphere in keeping with its “sanctuary” concept.
Accommodation at the lodge consists of ten self-contained timber and canvas rooms, raised well above ground level on decks, designed to maximise privacy and immersion in the forest. They are contemporary and luxurious with natural materials and neutral tones. Large openings or decks allow you to feel connected to the surrounding forest, with the sounds and atmosphere of Budongo forming part of the in-room experience. There limited number of rooms—around nine or ten—ensures an intimate and exclusive stay.
The lodge’s primary appeal lies in its access to Budongo Forest, one of Uganda’s most important chimpanzee habitats. Chimpanzee trekking and habituation experiences are a central highlight, offering close encounters with one of Africa’s most fascinating primates. Guided forest walks and birding excursions are also key activities, with the forest known for its rich biodiversity. This is an ideal starting point for a trip, accessible from Entebbe, before venturing into the wider Murchison Falls National Park for traditional safari experiences such as game drives, creating a varied itinerary that combines rainforest and savanna ecosystems.
Pabidi Lodge is located in the Kaniyo Pabidi section of Budongo Forest, access is typically via a five-hour road transfer from Kampala, or by flying to Pakuba Airstrip followed by a road transfer into the forest. Once inside the park, the lodge is only a short drive from the main gate, making it relatively accessible despite its secluded setting.

Kulu Ora | Murchison Falls National Park
KULU ORA LODGE IS ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING ADDITIONS TO UGANDA’S SAFARI LANDSCAPE, WE WERE SOME OF THE FIRST VISITORS WHEN IT OPENED IN 2026. SET DEEP WITHIN A REMOTE AND LITTLE-VISITED SECTOR OF MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK, WHILE THE LODGE OCCUPIES AN EXCLUSIVE STRETCH OF THE NILE, WHERE RAPIDS, FORESTED ISLANDS AND VAST OPEN WILDERNESS COMBINE TO CREATE AN EXTRAORDINARY SENSE OF PLACE. THE NAME “KULU ORA,” MEANING “RIVER” IN LOCAL LANGUAGES, REFLECTS BOTH ITS PHYSICAL SETTING AND ITS CULTURAL CONNECTION TO THE COMMUNITIES HISTORICALLY LINKED TO THIS LANDSCAPE.
THE FULL STORY
The design of Kulu Ora is both contemporary and rooted in place, combining clean architectural lines with strong references to Ugandan culture and craftsmanship. Developed entirely locally, the lodge has been placed up the banks to maximise views of the Nile. Canvas-walled structures, timber floors and open, airy interiors create a feeling of lightness, while communal spaces such as the lounge and library add a thoughtful, almost residential quality. The overall effect is one of understated luxury, where design enhances rather than competes with the raw beauty of the landscape.
Accommodation at Kulu Ora consists of a small number of spacious canvas suites, split on either side of teh main area, elevated and generously proportioned, with timber floors, large living areas and expansive bathrooms that include showers and deep copper bathtubs positioned to overlook the Nile. Each unit also features its own private plunge pool and deck, allowing you to relax in complete seclusion while taking in panoramic views of the river framed by indigenous trees.
Despite its remote location, the lodge offers a full complement of high-end facilities. A sizeable swimming pool and spa provide relaxation between activities, while the bar, dining areas and curated library create inviting spaces to unwind. Dining is an important part of the experience, with meals served in scenic locations overlooking the river, reinforcing the lodge’s connection to its environment. The entire property operates with a strong sustainability ethos, including solar power and conservation contributions that support local communities and wildlife initiatives. They are spearheading anti-poaching here and training teams to assist park management.
Kulu Ora is ideally placed for exploring the diverse ecosystems of Murchison Falls National Park. Game drives across the savanna reveal classic East African wildlife, but most famous for the tree-climbing lions however there are no zebra, wildebeest or impala here! Elephants will no doubt return as their operation takes control of the region. You can also access the navigable part of the Nile, about an hour and a half away, and enjoy boat safaris with hippos, crocodiles and prolific birdlife, often culminating at the base of the dramatic falls. You should also visit the top of Murchison Falls during a stay here or as part of a greater trip covering other parts of Murchison Falls. The lodge’s remote location allows for a more exclusive and uncrowded safari experience, with opportunities for guided walks and a deeper connection to the landscape.
Most Uganda safaris are done by road so primary access is usually with a vehicle and guide alternatively you can fly via a scheduled or charter flight from Entebbe to Pakuba Airstrip, followed by a road transfer to the lodge.
