Manfred Foeger - Photographic workshop

Welcome to South Luangwa and the photographers creative workshop for beginners. 

Day 1:

Today you will arrive approximately after at lunch time in Mfuwe and be met by your group leaders and transferred into South Luangwa National Park to Msandile River Lodge for the next 6 nights. After a group lunch there will be a short time to settle in and then embark on your first game drive. Here each team leader will offer assitance before and during the drive on how to set up your camera and start to capture what you encounter. In the evening should anyone require additional assistance to set up the team leaders will be at hand. We will all enjoy dinner together and then head to bed to get a good night's sleep! 

Day 2:

This morning we will head out in the park to get a little more practise and orient ourselves. Depending on what is around we may choose to set up at one of the many hippo lagoons, the ebony forest or drive to see "what we can see"! All team leaders will be at hand to help with settings, positioning and offer creative assistance.  

After breakfast the team leaders will take a masterclass from 11-1 on how to set up your computer and import photos. Having a good system in place from the beginning for storing and labelling will be invaluable later and help you maximise being able to curate photos for your needs. 

After a group lunch you can choose to head out on game drive to keep practising. 

Group dinner and discussions! 

Day 3:

Today we have the opportunity to take a whole day drive into some of the differing landscapes of South Luangwa, we will have breakfast and lunch in the bush and maximise our time out on drive here we can start to really practise any new and fun techniques as well as helping each other experiment with our own styles. 

We will arrive back just before sunset and have a sundowner on the river, if we are lucky we will catch an elephant crossing which we can get down low for in the boat  before (freshening up) for an early dinner. This will be a longer day but hopefully the most productive, we will be driving in convoy so if you wish to swap between the cars you can! 

Day 4: 

Morning game drive with your group leaders before breakfast. After breakfast we will have a class on editing basics for lightroom (or photoshop). 

After lunch we will have time for an afternoon drive or we can pick a spot to watch either the river, the ebony forest or similar to practise techniques. 

Day 5: 

This morning we will have game drives, after breafast should you wish the leaders will be at hand to give further editing advice. 

We will have an early game drive straight after lunch and back for sundowners on the river. With the aim of trying to get an elephant crossing. After sundown we will project onto a screen some images that we will collectively edit. This is not a "test" or an open exposure of your work, anyone is free to volunteer their pictures or we will use our own but rather a collective creative to see the many ways one picture can be edited and the very different results you can end up with. This will hopefully help you develop your own style rather than a copy and paste of what you see elsewhere. Although inspiration and playing around are key to finding what works for you! 

Day 6: 

This morning we will have a game drive with your group leader. 

After breakfast there will be an open forum for any help editing or otherwise before your last lunch as a team! 

This afternoon you will go on game drive together with sundowners as a group in a special spot! 

Tonight you will have a farewell braai a time to reflect on the week and swap contacts for any future adventures! 

Day 7: 

This morning if you wish there will be morning game drives followed by breakfast then sadly it will be time to depart. We will transfer you to Mfuwe Airport for your flight home.

 Should you have the late flight out you have the option of an extra lunch and late checkout if available.
