Monasterio de San Pelayo - Spain Hunting Adventure 2026

Day 1: Madrid

Sat. 25 Apr 2026

Our journey starts with a stay in "the Golden Triangle of Art" at the historic and luxurious Mandarin Oriental Ritz Hotel,  in Madrid. 

You will arrive to Mandarin Oriental Ritz where you will be able to check into your room and rest or take in the sights. Since the group may arrive at different times or days, we can set up transfers to the hotel on a needed basis and the cost can be added if the service is needed. 

On this evening, there will be an arrival dinner in Madrid. This dinner is hosted by Milton and Cara Hanburry, and is the perfect opportunity for everyone to get to know one another before you set out on the journey to the Monasterio de San Pelayo de Cerrato the next day. 

 We will then be transferred back to the hotel for the night.  

Day 2: Palencia

Sun. 26 Apr 2026

The morning will be at your leisure. Breakfast is included with the hotel room.  

We will enjoy a lovely lunch as a group and then be picked up for our private transfer to the Monasterio de San Pelayo. The drive is around a two hours from the hotel.  

Upon arrival at the sensational Monasterio, we will be greeted by Lo Lo and his team and shown to our respective rooms for the duration of our stay.

We will have the afternoon to relax and tour the Monastery property before gathering for cocktails before a beautiful dinner. Shooters who are renting guns may head to the gun room to select their pair of fine shotguns for the two days of partridge shooting.

After dinner, there are multiple gathering rooms to meet for coffee, tea, or after dinner drinks before heading off to bed. 

Day 3: Palencia

Mon. 27 Apr 2026

Today will be a day of driven red-legged partridge shooting with a bag of 600 birds for the line. 

The day starts with breakfast in the dining area for both shooters non-shooters around 8:30am in the morning. After taking our time with breakfast and getting dressed for the day, we will gather in the courtyard for a welcome greeting and a safety briefing before hoping in the vehicles to head out to the first drive. 

The estate offers eight unique and challenging drives within a 5 minute drive from the courtyard. Each shooting day consists of four well-driven long drives presenting plentiful and beautiful red-legged partridge to the line of guns. Between each drive, there will be breaks for appetizers and drinks giving the group ample time to enjoy the shooting day and each other's company. 

After the fourth drive, we will gather back at the Monastery where we will clean up and get ready for a elegant lunch either in the Monastery at one of the many dining areas or on the lawn of the shooting house. A perfect way to end the shooting day. 

The non-shooters will enjoy a morning of leisure at the Monastery. Around noon we will transfer about for a day of private touring and tasting of local wineries in the area. This area is know as one of the most traditional wine areas of all Europe. We'll have private tours and tastings. For lunch we will either enjoy a lovely lunch at one of the wineries we visit. Or we will head back and meet the shooters for lunch at the Monastery. Details to be firmly lined out. 

When lunch commences, the shooting operation team will present the shooters with a tableau honoring the partridge taken that day and to thank all parties involved who helped make the day possible. 

This evening will consist of a cocktail hour before another exceptional dinner and after dinner festivities. 

Day 4: Palencia

Tue. 28 Apr 2026

Today will be another day of driven red-legged partridge shooting with a bag of 600 birds for the line. These will be completely different drives than the first day of shooting. 

The day starts with breakfast in the dining area for both shooters non-shooters around 8:30am in the morning. After taking our time with breakfast and getting dressed for the day, we will gather in the courtyard for a welcome greeting and a safety briefing before hoping in the vehicles to head out to the first drive. 

The estate offers eight unique and challenging drives within a 5 minute drive from the courtyard. Each shooting day consists of four well-driven long drives presenting plentiful and beautiful red-legged partridge to the line of guns. Between each drive, there will be breaks for appetizers and drinks giving the group ample time to enjoy the shooting day and each other's company. 

After the fourth drive, we will gather back at the Monastery where we will clean up and get ready for a elegant lunch either in the Monastery at one of the many dining areas or on the lawn of the shooting lodge near the horse stable. A perfect way to end the shooting day. 

Non-shooters will enjoy the morning at leisure at the Monastery. There will be a planned activity on property for the non-shooter this day that has yet to be decided on. You will be take full advantage of the many amenities and elegance the Monastery has to offer. Around 1:00pm we will head out to the hunting area to meet the shooters for traditional Spanish drinks and snacks between shooting drives. We will then head back to the house and all have lunch together as the day before.

Day 5: Palencia

Wed. 29 Apr 2026

There is no driven partridge shooting planned for this day. 

The group of shooters and non-shooters will head out after breakfast to the town of Palencia. After the 30-min transfer to town, we will have a private visit to the Palencia Cathedral. Guided by an art historian, the tour includes the Crypt of San Antolín, main altarpiece, cloister, side chapels, and many sculptural details. 

We will then head over to visit the Diocesan Museum of Palencia. This will be a hosted by our own private expert guide. 

Lunch will follow our stop at the museum in Palencia at a handpicked restaurant for a high-quality local food experience before heading back to the Monastery. 

The afternoon will be one to relax from our morning activities. Around 6:00pm we will have a private wine tasting in an artistic and historic setting within the grounds of the Monastery. A nice final activity for all to do before we gather for our final dinner. 

There is an option for a Roe deer hunt in the morning of this day for any hunter who would like to participate. Pricing and details will be provided to those who are interested in partaking in the adventure of stalking a roe deer on their 60,000 acre free range big game property a short drive from the estate. 

Day 6: End of Itinerary

Thu. 30 Apr 2026

This will be our final morning at the Monasterio de San Pelayo de Cerrato. After breakfast, we go our respective ways whether that be your next stop on your European adventure or to catch a flight out of Madrid back to the United States. 

The drive from the Monastery to Madrid Barajas Airport is around 2hrs for your reference if you plan to depart Madrid on this date. We will assist in your transfer on this day to your desired destination.
