Day 2: Kuching

Semenggoh Orangutan Centre & City Tour

Depart from your hotel for an approximately 40 minutes drive to Semenggoh Orang Utan Centre. Walk through half a kilometer on downhill path to the feeding platform. The viewing area provides a spectacular view of the rainforest canopy. The highlight of the tour is to observe the not yet fully independent youngsters come down from the jungle for their scheduled feeding.

Return to the city for a city tour. The  3 hours tour will bring you passing many main attractions such as Chinatown, the Cat Monument and Tua Pek Kong Temple. Learn the history of the Cat City with a visit to the Kuching Waterfront to view the Istana, Historical Fort Margherita, and Colonial Building which include Square Tower, Court House, Charles Brooke Memorial, Clock Tower and the Round Tower.

Day 3: Gunung Mulu National Park

Kuching / Mulu National Park

Departure from your hotel. Take a short flight from Kuching to Mulu.

Mulu National Park is a national park in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that encompasses caves and karst formations in a mountainous equatorial rainforest setting. The park is famous for its caves and the expeditions that have been mounted to explore them and their surrounding rainforest. Mulu is famous for being home to some of the biggest caves in the world.

Located in the lush Mulu rainforest next to Mulu National Park, the 5-star Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa features stunning views and well-appointed rooms resting on raised wooden walkways. Upon arrival Mulu Airport, meet and greet by our friendly guide and transfer to Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa for check in. Meet at resort lobby in the afternoon for the transfer to Mulu National Park headquarters. Proceed for a scenic 3 km walk on boardwalks to reach Deer Cave and Lang Cave. Deer Cave is the world’s largest cave passage. The massive entrance of the cave is 150 m wide and 120 m high. The cave has a perfect profile of President Lincoln, naturally pictured in the rocks. Lang’s Cave got many stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave. They are some of the most beautiful limestone formations in park. 

After exploring the caves, proceed to the bats observatory deck to get an amazing view of about 3 million bats leaving the caves in a special spiral formation (subject to weather).  Return on the same plank walk before heading back to the resort for dinner.

Day 4: Gunung Mulu National Park

Mulu National Park

After breakfast, transfer by longboat proceed to Batu Bungan Penan Settlement to observe the tribe lifestyle and to select handicrafts on display for sale at Penan Settlement. Continue journey by longboat to Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave. Enjoy swimming at Clearwater spring with picnic lunch. After lunch, return transfer by longboat to resort. Dinner & overnight at resort.

Day 5: Kota Kinabalu

Mulu National Park / Kota Kinabalu

Breakfast at resort and free at own leisure until transfer to Mulu airport for flight departure to Kota Kinabalu.

Arrival to the state capital of the Malaysian state of Sabah at the most northern part of Borneo. At arrival take a short 15 minutes transfer to Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort. The resort is a 5-star city resort overlooking the South China Sea.

Day 6: Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu City Tour

After breakfast we will start to explorer Kota Kinabalu. We start at the Sabah State Museum to get to know some history of Sabah. Moving on, we proceed to Gaya Street for a tea and coffee break with local delicacies. Stop by at the Signal Hill Observation Tower to have a bird’s view of Kota Kinabalu City and the South China Sea, as well as get to know the history of the city. We make a visit to Sabah's "floating mosque” and Puh Toh Tze Temple before we make our last stop at the Handcraft Market. We return to the hotel end of the afternoon.

Day 7: Danum Valley Conservation Area

Kota Kinabalu / Lahad Datu / Danum Valley

Early morning transfer to catch the first flight from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu at 7am. Upon arrival in Lahad Datu, you will depart for 70 km overland journey on gravel roads to Danum Valley. The area covers a sprawling 438 square kilometre undisturbed area of lowland dipterocarp rainforest in Sabah. Have your first introduction of the forest in the afternoon through “Nature Trails” and the tree top “Canopy Walkway” for a close-up observation of the rainforest. Danum Valley is home to many species of Borneo’s unique lowland fauna such as the Clouded Leopards, Pygmy Elephants and Orangutans. After dinner, proceed for a night drive in an open-top vehicle in search of nocturnal animals. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 8: Danum Valley Conservation Area

Borneo Rainforest Lodge - Danum Valley

Spend the whole day exploring the rainforest for more chances of spotting birds and mammals. Trek to the ancient Kadazandusun burial site aka “Coffin Cliff” before continue trekking to the “view point” for a bird’s eye view of the valley. Take your time to catch your breath and relax before descending the hill to the lodge for lunch. Another jungle trekking in the afternoon or you can opt to go ‘tubing’ down the Danum River. A night walk after dinner for more wildlife watching experience. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 9: Kinabatangan River

Danum Valley / Sukau, Kinabatangan River

After breakfast, depart Danum Valley. Overland transfer to the small village Sukau at the mighty Kinabatangan River. Check-in to the multi awards winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge. After checking in and enjoying an afternoon refreshment, you will go on a river cruise in search of some of the 10 primate species. Sukau is home to many of Borneo’s magnificent wildlife such as the famous Bornean pygmy elephants, orangutans, proboscis monkeys and the big hornbill birds.

Return to lodge to savour a candle light dinner on the pier, followed by slide presentation and interpretation by the naturalist guide.

Day 10: Kinabatangan River

Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Early morning, wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills and enjoy your soothing hot Sabah tea. At 6.00am, you will go on a morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap oxbow lake to view more birds and wildlife. After breakfast, you will have an educational tour at the in-house Hornbill Boardwalk, located behind the lodge with the house naturalist. 

In the afternoon, you will proceed to have another river cruise on the Kinabatangan River for more wildlife sighting and indulge yourself with the peaceful tropical nature. Overnight stay at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Day 11: Sepilok

Sukau Rainforest Lodge / Sepilok, Sandakan

After breakfast depart on a 2½ hours boat journey down the Kinabatangan River to Sandakan. On arrival in Sandakan, we will have lunch before, heading to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. There, you'll be treated to an enlightening video show about the conservation efforts done at the centre. Enjoy a ten minute walk in the midst of the rainforest and witness the feeding of orangutans at the feeding platform before observing them over at the outdoor nursery. After, head to the Sun Bear Conservation Centre next door after to learn more about the smallest bears in the world. Overnight near to the orangutan centre in the beautiful nature at Sepilok Nature Resort.

Day 12: Lankayan , Langkayan Island

Arrival in Sandakan / Lankayan Island

Transfer you to Sandakan Pulau Sipadan Resort Jetty to catch the 1.5 hour boat transfer to Lankayan Island. Spend the rest of the day relaxing on the beach.

Day 13: Lankayan

Lankayan Island

Free and easy at Lankayan Island. The island is surrounded by amazing coral reefs and offers some of the best snorkeling and diving experiences in Borneo. The island also have turtle landings at nights where turtles will come ashore to lay eggs. The turtles are protected and there is a turtle hatchery on the island under supervision of Sabah Parks. On selected nights baby turtles are released on the beach.

Day 14: End of Itinerary

Lankayan Island / Departure Sandakan

After breakfast, we depart by boat transfer to Sandakan. Thereafter, we will pick you up and transfer you to Sandakan Airport. From here you can connect to flights to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
