Day 1: Antananarivo

A member of our team will welcome you at the international arrival hall, please look out for a sign with your name after you exit the restricted area with your luggages.
You will then be led to your vehicule for your private transfer and chauffeured to your hotel.

Day 2: Andasibe

Antananarivo - Andasibe : +/-150km - +/- 5hours drive (Departure suggested between
07.00am-09.00am)
Embarking on our journey toward the Eastern part of the island, we depart from the vibrant city of
Antananarivo. As we traverse the bustling and colorful cityscape, we make our way onto Route Nationale 2,
the primary commercial artery of Madagascar, leading us towards the picturesque East coast and its main
harbor.
Over the course of our 150 km expedition, the landscape transforms, unveiling the diverse beauty of the
highlands. Along the way, we encounter small traditional villages nestled on hill sides, and vast rice fields
stretching out before us. A section of the road, characterized by its twists, steep ascents, and lush
surroundings, signals our entry into another captivating region of Madagascar.
Our journey concludes in Andasibe, renowned for its National Park, a sanctuary encompassing both primary
and secondary forests. As we arrive, the allure of Andasibe's natural wonders awaits, promising an
immersive experience in the heart of Madagascar's rich biodiversity.
The Mitsinjo reserve: is a community initiative started by a Malagasy NGO which works in conservation,
nature-based tourism and development which includes the agriculture and health. Being one of the
biodiversity hotspots of the eastern Madagascar rainforest corridor, it integrates the protection of prime
habitat and the generation of sustainable income for the local population living in and around Andasibe.
According to that, you will definitely contribute to the development of all the area by visiting the reserve and
understanding the project.
During the night walk you will have the opportunity to discover the nocturnal wildlife of the Andasibe
Rainforest.

Day 3: Andasibe

Analamazaotra Special Reserve Exploration: Embark on a captivating adventure by departing from our
hotel around 7:30 am, ensuring optimal observation conditions as we head towards the entrance of the
Analamazaotra Special Reserve. The star of this reserve is none other than Madagascar's iconic lemur, the
"Indri Indri," which is both endemic to the site and serves as its emblem.
A leisurely and immersive hike, spanning approximately 2 to 3 hours, awaits us as we venture into the heart
of the reserve. Our primary quest is to witness the majestic Indri Indri in its natural habitat. With its distinctive
call resonating through the forest, we'll be on the lookout for groups of these remarkable lemurs, known for
their unique behaviors and captivating presence.
As we traverse the reserve, the biodiversity unfolds before us, offering glimpses of other lemur species, a
variety of birds, enchanting chameleons, and more. The endemic flora adds to the allure, with the landscape
adorned by orchids and medicinal plants, showcasing the unique botanical richness of Analamazaotra. Our
knowledgeable guide will share insights into the natural wonders that surround us, making this exploration
an enriching and unforgettable experience in the heart of Madagascar's extraordinary biodiversity.
Vakona Reserve Exploration: Lemur refude and Crocodile Oasis
Step into the vast expanse of the Vakona Reserve, where an island embraced by freshwater unveils a
unique haven for various lemur species. Among the treetops and lush surroundings, encounter common
brown lemurs, bamboo lemurs, ruffed lemurs, and diademed sifakas. This exceptional opportunity offers a
rare chance to get up close and interact with these charismatic primates, creating memorable moments for
both photography enthusiasts and those seeking unforgettable souvenirs.
Wander through the reserve, immersing yourself in the natural beauty that serves as a backdrop to these
enchanting lemurs. The island setting provides a harmonious environment for these creatures, allowing

As you explore further, the property unveils another facet of its wildlife diversity. Numerous crocodiles, once
residents of a former farm, now inhabit one of the small lakes on the Vakona property. An intriguing
spectacle awaits if you happen to visit on a Saturday, as the reptiles partake in their weekly feast. Witnessing
this natural behavior adds an extra layer of excitement to your visit, providing a holistic and immersive
experience within the diverse ecosystems of the Vakona Reserve.

Day 4: Antananarivo

Andasibe Village: Do not miss to visit the village of Andasibe which has a population of around 5000
people. Through this visit, you will witness the daily life of this calm and colourful village. With your guide,
you will walk in the narrow and unpaved cobbled streets along the small stalls. You will have several chances
to interact with local villagers and see how they make a living and occupy their free time. The walk starts or
end at the old colonial train station with its alpine architecture which was home to the once very fashionable
restaurant "Buffet de la Gare" in the 1930s . The market is centrally located and busiest on Saturdays.
Andasibe - Antananarivo: Scenic road journey. +/-150km - +/- 5hours drive (departure suggested
between 07.00am - 08.00am )
Embarking on the road journey from Andasibe to Antananarivo, you'll traverse the picturesque landscapes,
transitioning from the lush region of Andasibe to the highlands leading to the capital. As you ascend, the
changing altitude becomes apparent, providing a striking perspective on the varied topography of
Madagascar.
En route, you'll encounter a hydroelectric power station, harnessing the elevation difference to generate
energy-a testament to the utilization of natural resources in this diverse terrain.
Covering a distance of approximately 150 kilometers, you have ample time to absorb the ever-changing
vistas and appreciate the unique beauty of both regions. Your arrival in Antananarivo marks the culmination
of this road trip, bringing you back to the bustling heart of the island's capital.
The Peyrieras Butterfly Farm: Our itinerary includes a captivating stop at Madagascar Exotic, also
recognized as the Peyrieras Butterfly Farm, Peyrieras Nature Farm, and Mandraka Reptile Farm. Situated in
Marozevo along National Road N2, 75 km (47 mi) east of Antananarivo, between the towns of
Manjakandriana and Moramanga, this privately run reserve offers a unique experience. Founded and owned
by the French entomologist and naturalist André Peyriéras, it is affectionately referred to as the Reserve
Peyrieras.
While exploring Madagascar Exotic, you will encounter a diverse collection of animals, including reptiles
such as chameleons, iguanas, geckos, and frogs. The reserve is also home to batraciens (bats), crocodiles,
and a vibrant array of butterflies. It's important to note that the animals are held in captivity as part of
conservation and educational efforts.
Adjacent to the reserve, a forest area supports families of relocated and habituated Verreaux's Sifaka and
Common brown lemurs. This presents a unique opportunity for up-close encounters and photographing

Handcrafts Markets of Antananarivo: Tailoring our excursion to suit your preferences, we will guide you to
the ideal market for your souvenir shopping. The Marché Artisanal Digue stands out as the largest market
for local handicrafts in Antananarivo. This vibrant marketplace boasts an extensive array of items, ranging
from intricately embroidered pieces to beautifully crafted wood carvings. Explore the diverse selection that
includes creations made from smooth leather and the unique 'Antaimoro paper.'
Beyond handicrafts, the Digue market showcases semi-precious items such as colored stones, along with
home decor crafted from rare silks. Whether you're in search of traditional keepsakes or contemporary

Day 5: Antsirabe

Scenic drive on National 7 : From Antananarivo to Antsirabe. +/-170km - +/-5 hours drive (departure
suggested between 07.30am-09.30am)
Embark on a captivating journey along the renowned National Road 7, offering a splendid introduction to the
scenic beauty of the Malagasy highlands. The picturesque landscape unfolds, revealing expansive rice
fields, majestic mountains, and charming typical villages. The abundance of fruit and vegetable stalls along
the way showcases the remarkable fertility of the region, providing a glimpse into the local agricultural
practices. Take advantage of the opportunity to witness villagers diligently working in their fields and feel free
to stop at your leisure, engaging with the warm-hearted locals.
As we ascend on this enchanting route, reaching approximately 1500 meters of altitude, the climate
transitions to a refreshing coolness. Be prepared to experience the diverse temperatures, with winter
temperatures dropping to around 0 degrees Celsius. The city of Antsirabe, founded in 1872 by Norwegian
missionary T.G. Rosaas, serves as a prominent hill station and retreat center due to its cooler climate.
Antsirabe is steeped in history, notably being the place of exile for Moroccan King Mohamed V in 1955. A
brief stop at his former palace, now the "Hotel des Thermes," offers a glimpse into this historical episode.
Today, Antsirabe has evolved into a major industrial center, known for the production of THB beer and cotton
fabrics. As you continue your journey, relish the blend of natural beauty and cultural richness that defines the
captivating landscapes along National Road 7.
Ambatolampy: Artisanal Craftsmanship in Aluminium Forging :
Nestled 80 kilometers south of Antananarivo, the small town of Ambatolampy has gained renown for its
aluminum foundries, which produce the ubiquitous cooking pots found in Malagasy households. A visit to
Ambatolampy offers a unique opportunity to witness the entire production process, from the intense heat of
metal melting to the meticulous casting of the final products.
As you explore the foundries, you'll gain insights into the craftsmanship involved, observing skilled artisans
at work. These talented individuals have not only mastered the art of crafting traditional cooking pots but
have also diversified their production to include a variety of objects. Remarkably, some claim that they can
even create functional replicas of firearms.
The artisans in Ambatolampy employ archaic methods in their work, showcasing their dedication to their
craft. Despite the lack of modern protective measures, these hardworking individuals continue their labor,
shaping molten metal into everyday items with skill and precision. Their commitment to their trade makes
them some of the hardest-working individuals in Madagascar, although the nature of their work is not without
its risks.
A visit to Ambatolampy provides a fascinating glimpse into the intricate world of artisanal aluminum forging,
where tradition, craftsmanship, and ingenuity converge to create essential items for Malagasy households.
Rickshaw tour: At any given hour of the day, the lively streets of Antsirabe are filled with more than 6000
men pulling the iconic "pousse-pousse" across the city. These rickshaws are an integral part of Antsirabe's
identity. Experience the charm of this traditional means of transportation by embarking on a pousse-pousse
for a short tour of downtown.
Allow the rickshaw to take you to your hotel, guide you to the location of your next meal, or lead you to your
next sightseeing adventure. The rhythmic sounds of the bustling city, coupled with the open-air experience of
the pousse-pousse, offer a unique and enjoyable way to navigate Antsirabe's streets. This brief journey
provides a delightful glimpse into the daily life of the city and the cherished tradition of the pousse-pousse.

Days 6 - 7: Ranomafana

Day 6 - Antsirabe - Ranomafana : +/- 250km - +/- 7hours drive on bumpy road (Departure suggested between
07.00am-08.00am)
Breakfast at the hotel. Take advantage of your morning to visit some workshops or some surrounding
villages.
We continue our journey heading south across the highlands to reach Ambositra, the Malagasy hand
crafts'capital located 105 km from Antsirabe. In this city known for its Zafimaniry Art, we will visit different
hand crafter workshops, wood carvers who make beautiful statues, furnitures and souvenirs.
After lunch in Ambositra, we will hit the road in the afternoon to reach the rainforest in Ranomafana. Once
you get there, we will do a night visit of the rainforest to find animals such as the Fosa (small puma),
chameleons, frogs and the smallest lemur in the world: Microcebe.
Ambositra: woodcraft workshops:
A walk through downtown Ambositra, Madagascar, promises a captivating journey filled with vibrant colors,
lively sounds, and the rhythmic hum of various workshops. Ambositra is renowned for its skilled artisans,
particularly those specializing in wood carving and traditional craftsmanship.
The air is filled with the scent of freshly carved wood as you approach the first workshop. Skilled artisans,
often sitting on low wooden stools, meticulously carve intricate designs. These craftsmen are known for their
expertise in creating traditional Malagasy sculptures, including intricate figurines, masks, and detailed
furniture pieces. You can witness the dedication and precision that goes into each creation, with artisans
passing down their skills through generations.

Day 7 - Day 7 Ranomafana
We will rush in the wet and dense forest of Ranomafana National Park where you can find a still unknown
flora and fauna. Until recently, new species of plants and animals were discovered. We will also see lemurs
evolve in their natural habitat.
Exploration of Ranomafana National Park: A Biodiversity Haven
We delve into the heart of Ranomafana National Park, an ecological gem nestled in the southeastern part of
Madagascar. Spanning over 41,600 hectares of tropical rainforest, this park is a sanctuary for a plethora of
rare species, both flora and fauna, making it a biodiversity hotspot.
Ranomafana National Park boasts a diverse ecosystem, harboring rare and endemic species. Among its
notable inhabitants are the golden bamboo lemur, greater bamboo lemur, black and white ruffed lemur,
Milne-Edwards sifaka, as well as an array of bird species including pitta-like ground rollers, blue vangas,
short-legged ground rollers, and brown mesites.
As we explore the trails of Ranomafana National Park, be prepared for a sensory journey into the heart of
Madagascar's natural wonders. From the mesmerizing calls of lemurs echoing through the canopy to the
vibrant hues of endemic flora, every step in this lush rainforest is a discovery.
Nightwalk at the roadside
At nightfall, enjoy a walk at the roadside, near the park entrance, to spot the small and shy brown lemur
attracted by the bananas smell. It will also be the occasion to look for frogs and chameleons using torches. If
you are lucky, you can discover almost the different species that are sheltered in the forest so good flash will
be required to get good pictures but not too intense not to disturb animals.

Days 8 - 9: Ranohira

Day 8 - Ranomafana - Ranohira : +/- 335km - +/- 8hours drive (Earlier departure suggested between
06.30am-07.30am)
We continue our road trip with the majestic Andringitra in the background. We leave the highlands of
Madagascar and enter a new microclimate: the dry bush and semi desert of southern Madagascar. The
first stop of the day is in the small town of Ambalavao, one of the cultural treasures with its architectural
houses with verandas. There, we will visit the entirely natural Paper Factory Antemoro, an inlaid paper
made from plants and flowers which is exported nowadays everywhere to make beautiful greeting cards. We
will visit these traditional mills. After our lunch in Ambalavao, we will transfer you to your hotel in the rock
formations of Isalo.
We leave the highlands to continue your journey towards the South with its semi-dry landscape. We will
arrive in Ranohira later in the afternoon to enjoy a very unique landscape.
Ambalavao: Unveiling the Art of Antemoro Paper Production
In Ambalavao, we explore the intricate process of crafting Antemoro paper, a cultural treasure deeply woven
into the heritage of the Antemoro ethnic group in Madagascar.
Witness the delicate dance of tradition and innovation as the Antemoro people skillfully create their unique
paper. This experience offers a glimpse into a world where craftsmanship, cultural heritage, and economic
vitality converge, creating a tapestry of stories written on Antemoro paper.
From the selection of flowers to the pressing and drying techniques, every aspect of the craftsmanship
reflects a deep respect for tradition.
Exploring Anja Community Reserve: A Harmony of Nature and Culture:
We delve into the Anja Community Reserve, a remarkable site located 13 kilometers south of the district
capital, Ambalavao. Anja stands as a testament to the harmonious coexistence of nature and human life,
showcasing a model of environmental and cultural preservation in the southern reaches of Madagascar.
Designated as a protected area reserve by the Government of Madagascar in 1999, the Anja forest spans
30 hectares, enveloping visitors in a sanctuary of ecological richness. As we step into this natural haven, we
are greeted by a tapestry of flora and fauna, where the intricate balance of ecosystems thrives under the
protective gaze of the community.
The stewardship of the reserve falls under the care of the local association, Anja Miray. This transfer of
management responsibilities underscores the commitment of the community to safeguarding the natural
heritage of Anja. Through shared dedication, the reserve has flourished, becoming a haven for biodiversity.
Anja is renowned for its semi-tame population of ring-tailed lemurs, a captivating feature that draws visitors
into the heart of Madagascar's unique wildlife. As we explore the reserve, the presence of these lemurs
offers an intimate encounter with the island's iconic inhabitants, adding to the enchantment of Anja.
By the end of the day, you will enjoy a cocktail in this lunatic landscape, specially prepared for you on the
small hill called "Giorgio's window
Isalo window: At the end of day, we drive to the window of Isalo, a rectangular formation of rocks atop a hill
with a large hole, hence a window. This natural picture frame is the perfect setting for a photo of the beautiful
Madagascar sunsets.

Day 9 - Isalo National Park: Accompanied by your park ranger, we will hike through the canyons and oases of
Isalo and its lunar landscape to reach some waterfalls. This environment was formed during the Jurassic
age and where the unique flora has evolved adapting to the existing conditions. There are 77 species of
birds live in Isalo among which the rare and famous Benson rock-thrush ( Pseudocossyphus bensoni ).
During that hike, we will see different species of lemurs, including the world famous ring tailed lemur.
After the canyons, we will go to different places to see a panoramic view of the landscape. We will have
the opportunity to relax in this environment and swim in the natural pools.
Bara Village: Drive 30 minutes to visit the village of the Bara tribe, a semi-nomadic, zebu-herding clan. The
chief of the village hosts our group, describes their daily life and challenges, and he answers questions
through our translators.

envelopes/gifts

Days 10 - 11: Ifaty

Day 10 - Ranohira - Ifaty : +/- 280km - +/- 6hours drive (Departure suggested between 07.30am-08.30am)
This is a beautiful and smooth drive along a nicely paved road with large open spaces. On our way, we will
cross one the numerous villages formed by the sapphire rush. You will also cross a dry decidous forest and
see the first baobabs on the National Road 7. We will require only 4.5 hours to drive the 250km separating
Isalo from the Mozambique channel. Once we arrive in Toliara, we continue 30 km further north following a
sand track towards the small villages of Ifaty. and Mangily.
The Antsokay Arboretum was established around 1980. Located 12km from the city of Toliara, 2 km north
of the Tropic of Capricorn and 3 km from the Mozambique Canal waters, the Antsokay Arboretum means a
small nearby hamlet of limestone found which are used to make quicklime.
The guided tour through the botanical trail will open your eyes to the ingenuity of a diverse flora that has
adapted, sometimes in extraordinary ways, to the heat and drought of this region. You will also discover the
relationship that has developed between mankind and the plant kingdom, through the use of medicinal
plants.
The arboretum has a collection of over 900 plant species from the southwest of Madagascar, 90% are
endemic to the region and 80% have medicinal properties. Among these many succulent species are
recognized as endangered.
More than 25 species of reptiles and mammals are found there. Among the most common are the: Furcifer
verrucosus, oplurus cyclurus and Phelsuma mutabilis.
The arboretum is also home to several species of mammals including the lemur Microcebus griseorufus and
tenrec Echinops telfairi, both nocturnal. The lemurs are the smallest lemurs of Madagascar, measuring only
12cm long and can be apreçus asleep in tree holes during the day, they eat insects and fruit.

Day 11 - Enjoy your day free at leisure

 

Day 12: Antananarivo

We will transfer you to the domestic terminal so that you can board your Tsaradia flight to your next
destination
You will be transferred by air to the capital.
Once your luggage has been collected, our collaborator will be present to greet you at the domestic arrivals
hall, you will be escorted to your private transfer vehicle for a smooth and personalized journey to your
destination.

Day 13: End of Itinerary

We will transfer you to the international terminal in a timely manner so that you can board your flight on time.
We wish you a safe and pleasant journey home.
