Patagonia Puma Quest: From Chile to Argentina. March 2026

Welcome to Chile!

On arrival in Santiago, you will be transferred to our hotel for tonight, the Casa Bellavista.

Casa Bellavista Hotel is situated in the heart of Bellavista, on a quiet, tree-lined street only minutes’ walk from bars, restaurants and major sights such as Pablo Neruda's house and San Cristobal hill.

There are just 11 pleasant en-suite bedrooms, all equipped with free WIFI plus a sun deck where we can enjoy a glass of Chilean wine and sample some traditional gourmet food products from the in-house store.

Fly to Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine

Our base for puma tracking for the next few days will be El Overjero, a traditional Patagonian guesthouse set in the rural village of Cerro Castillo, surrounded by rolling grasslands and open skies.  The rooms are simple but comfortable, en-suite and with heating.  Cerro Castillo  is the capital of the Torres del Paine commune and the last town before entering Torres del Paine National Park

The drive will take us 40 minutes to reach the southern entrance of Torres del Paine National Park with its puma watching sites. 

We will be out in the park on morning and afternoon drives to the puma sites with our private guide (on some days we may take a boxed lunch and spend the day out)

Cpach from Puerto Natales to El Calafte

Today, we cross the border into Argentina by coach to El Calafate, a town near the edge of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, and close to the border of Chile.

The lodge has views of the beautiful Lake Argentino, Redonda Bay and Laguna Nimez Ecological Reserve.

The Laguna de Nimez Municipal Ecological Reserve is the perfect place for long walks, hikes, or birdwatching. 

Just 50 m from the inn, it covers an area of ​​35 hectares and offers the opportunity to see more than 80 different species of birds, including cauquenes, flamingos, swans, ducks, herons, falcons, loicas, overcasts, snipe, and stilts.

The most recommended times are early morning or late evening, when flocks of birds gather, feeding and cooing with their characteristic sounds, creating a particularly awe-inspiring atmosphere.

Drive from El Calafate to Estancia La Angostura

Well-located for a stopover as we travel through the Santa Cruz Province, we will stop overnight at Estancia La Angostura, a small, traditional lodge on the legendary National Route 40.  (Ruta 40 is one of the longest highways in the world).

Its owners, who have lived on these lands since 1878, offer warm service and regional cuisine.

Drive to La Posta de los Toldos 

La Posta de Los Toldos is a refuge in the deep Patagonian steppe of Patagonia Park.  The experience is based on achieving luxury through simplicity, exploration immersed in nature and the enjoyment of a remote place. Rooms have private bathrooms; they provide fresh, homemade and regional cuisine and a cozy lounge area.

Using a local guide, we will spend the next three days driving and hiking to discover the wildlife of Parque Patagonia with a focus on the apex predator, the puma.

We will leave after breakfast and return later in the evening for dinner, taking a packed lunch with us to maximise our time in the park.

Drive to Comodoro Rivadavia and fly to Buenos Aires

This morning we drive to Comodoro Rivadavia for our flight to Buenos Aires. Comodoro is a city in the Patagonian province of Chubut in southern Argentina, located on the San Jorge Gulf, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean. 

Arrival at the domestic airport in Buenos Aires and private transfer to our hotel.

The NH Collection Buenos Aires Lancaster hotel is well-known in Buenos Aires for its elegant façade. It’s a 1940’s building that has been renovated to give it a modern look and feel. As for the location, it’s conveniently placed within walking distance of some of Buenos Aires' iconic buildings and Florida for its shops and restaurants.
