Santiago - Island tour

With this excursion, we will enjoy na unforgettable journey in the North of the island – to Tarrafal, we will contemplate the unique landscapes of Santiago island. High mountains, plains and green valleys, we will notice that the landscape completely changes from the one in Praia.​

​The first stop will be done in São Domingos, where we will visit the Eco Centro. We will see different villages, passing by the Antónia peak, the higest point of the island. 60km away from Praia, we will find the city of Assomada, an important point for trades, where we will visit the traditional market (only wednesdays and saturdays). ​

​The ride continues passing through the region of Serra da Malagueta, with its eucalyptus forest, few acacias types and other endemic plants. ​

​We will finally arrive to Tarrafal, a fishermen village where we will have the opportunity to visit the old concentration camp, transformed nowadays into a museum, and then we will go to the incredible bay, with its nice sea, surrounded by palm trees – considered as one of the most beautiful beaches in the country.​

​Lunch next to the sea and free time to dive into the clear water.​

​After, we will make a stop at the “rabelados” village of Espinho Branco – a religious community, who rebeled itself against the society and the church during the colonial time, and now maintains its unique traditions. Here, we will have the chance to see and buy some hand-craft pieces, paintings, while we learn more about this culture. ​

​Before to go back to Praia, we will see the small bays, caves and black sand beaches, stopping in the beautiful area of Pedra Badejo. ​

Day 3: Santiago Island

Santiago - Praia/Cidade Velha Tour

We will start with a walk in the historical center of Praia – the «Plateau», where we will see the cross district, the place, the church and the public market, the art street of Ponta Belém, going down via the Sukupira market.​

​After that, we will take the bus to Cidade Velha, located 20 min away from the capital, the first city builted by the Portugues in Africa and considered as the cradle of Cape Verde. ​

The historical center of Ribeira Grande, renamed «Cidade Velha» at the end of the XVIIIth century, siècle, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage in 2009 and, caring its historical remains, the majority of the ruins and its typical architecture (wall made with rocks and roof made with thatch) are well preserved. ​

​We will visit the São Filipe Fort, 100 meters above the sea level. It was build to protect the city from the pirates that were constantly attacking the city between the XVIth and the XVIIth century – among them Francis Drake and Jacques Cassard.​

​At our arrival in Cidade Velha, we will visit each monument and ruin, including the old cathedral, the São Franciso convent, the Nossa Senhora do Rosário church (the first church established in the old colonies), the Banana street and the old slaves market, with its pillory. ​

The lunch will take place in a restaurant close to the sea, in the center of Cidade Velha. The tour includes the transfer and the guide. ​

Day 4: São Vicente

Today you will be taken to the airport to fly to a new destination - São Vicente Island.

Day 5: São Vicente

São Vicente Island tour - beaches and volcanoes

Discover the different scenarios of São Vicente, with its beautiful beaches and extinct volcanoes.

We start with a walking tour of the cosmopolitan city of Mindelo, the capital, then climb Monte Verde  for its panoramic view, Salamansa and its kitesurfing beach, Baía das Gatas, known for its music festival. and its natural pools (free time for swimming).

We will also pass by Praia Grande, an incredible white sand beach and Calhau with its extinct volcanoes, from where we can see the island of Santa Luzia.

We return to the city center by the Madeiral road.

Day 6: São Vicente

São Vicente - Cultural Mindelo

Walking tour to discover Mindelo, city of culture, music and miscegenation.

Mindelo is the result of two major influences: the Portuguese and British colonies, present in the four corners of the streets and the architecture of their beautiful buildings.

Ideal excursion to learn how Cape Verdeans live here and learn all the secrets of their history .

We will visit the different markets and taste the local products, visit the Cesária Museum in the Governor’s Palace and we will pass in front of the Town Halll the Church Square - the cradle of the city, from which the first houses were built and designed the first streets.

We will walk along Praça Nova, Avenida Marginal - with the replica of the Belém tower, the bay and Old Customs - today the cultural center of Mindelo and painters ateliers.

Day 7: Santo Antao

Morning transfer to Mindelo port to take the ferry to your new destination - Santo Antão.

Santo Antão - "The discovery"

Tour to discover the main attractions of the island through the famous Corda road. You’ll be passing through Água das Caldeiras, Ribeira Grande, Ponta de Sol and, of course, Paúl. A fabulous contrast between the aridity of the south side of the island and the forest in the heights, with luxuriant vegetation in the north. Not to be missed!

Day 8: Santo Antao

Santo Antão - Hiking Paul Valley

With this hike you will discover the exotic road to Paúl valley, the garden of Cabo Verde, as it is considered the greenest and most luxuriant valley of the country.

The path goes from cottage to cottage, crossing vegetable crops (cabbage, tomato, corn, yam, beans ....) and tropical fruits or grains (banana, guava, sugar cane, coffee ...), combining meeting with locals, agriculture and botany.

This is an opportunity to discover the local rural life: walking through mule trails, built by the man at the feet of the "levadas" (irrigation canals) and terraced crops.

Day 9: São Vicente

Discovery of the southwestern part of the island.

Lunch in an ecological farm.

After lunch, transfer to the port of Santo Antão to take the ferry back to São Vicente.

Santo Antão - Southwest discovery with walking tours

Discovery of the southwestern side of the island, through volcanic landscapes, pozzolana fields where you will be able to sight beautiful isolated villages... With small walking tours you'll discover unusual landscapes, as well as learn about this people daily life.
