We will start with a walk in the historical center of Praia – the «Plateau», where we will see the cross district, the place, the church and the public market, the art street of Ponta Belém, going down via the Sukupira market.
After that, we will take the bus to Cidade Velha, located 20 min away from the capital, the first city builted by the Portugues in Africa and considered as the cradle of Cape Verde.
The historical center of Ribeira Grande, renamed «Cidade Velha» at the end of the XVIIIth century, siècle, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage in 2009 and, caring its historical remains, the majority of the ruins and its typical architecture (wall made with rocks and roof made with thatch) are well preserved.
We will visit the São Filipe Fort, 100 meters above the sea level. It was build to protect the city from the pirates that were constantly attacking the city between the XVIth and the XVIIth century – among them Francis Drake and Jacques Cassard.
At our arrival in Cidade Velha, we will visit each monument and ruin, including the old cathedral, the São Franciso convent, the Nossa Senhora do Rosário church (the first church established in the old colonies), the Banana street and the old slaves market, with its pillory.
The lunch will take place in a restaurant close to the sea, in the center of Cidade Velha. The tour includes the transfer and the guide.
