Day 1 - 3

Selenkay Conservancy

Day notes

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, pass through immigration and collect your baggage. A driver will transfer you to Wilson Airport for your flight to Amboseli.  Touch down at Amboseli and a team member from Porini Amboseli will meet you for the drive to the camp in the Selekay Conservancy.

Situated just north of Amboseli over the northern boundary of Amboseli Park is the Selenkay Conservancy. Selenkay shares the same ecosystem as Amboseli and is established on lands leased from the local Maasai, with the aim of protecting the wildlife habitat and encouraging wildlife conservation. The conservancy is home to an array of wildlife such as elephant, gazelle, lion, giraffe and zebra.  It boasts a remote bush camp in the heart of Selenkay’s Maasailand which is the perfect spot from which to view the plentiful wildlife.

Wander round the camp to spot White-bellied Go Away Bird, Whte-headed Buffalo Weaver, White-browed Coucal, Black-headed Oriole and Slate-coloured Boubou.  Listen in the morning for the booming call of Ostrich.

Sitting outside your tent you will often see mammals walking through - impala, Lesser kudu, elephant and Vervet monkey.  Even giraffe can wander through at night. Relax in the lounge area with a cool drink watching the small waterhole to see who comes in to drink.

Activities in Amboseli Camp: Morning and afternoon / evening game drives; walking safari with Masaai warriors.  One full day in Amboseli National Park with packed lunches for a full day of game viewing.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Day notes

After an early breakfast, return to Amboseli Airstrip for your flight to Nanyuki.

You will be greeted at the airstrip by your driver and transferred to Porini Rhino Camp in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Enjoy lunch and afternoon tea in camp and then take an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at camp.

Resting at the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountain Range, in central Kenya's Laikipia County, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy is the largest Black Rhino sanctuary in East Africa. It is also home to the last remaining Northern White Rhino in the world. Originally a working cattle ranch in colonial Kenya and now a pioneering wildlife conservancy, Ol Pejeta works to protect wildlife and provide a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees. The Conservancy  is home to the renowned ‘Big Five’ as well as a wide selection of other wildlife.

The camp has a wonderful waterhole with a hide.  Expect to see Giraffe, Elephant, Impala, Waterbuck, Warthog and Zebra coming in to drink.  Take a coffee or a cool drink to the hide after lunch and while away an hour with close up encounters of the wildlife.  Stroll around the camp footpaths and look for Lesser Masked Weavers, Holub's Golden Weaver, Green Wood-hoopoe and Yellow-rumped Seedeater.

Elephants, buffalo, zebra and waterbuck are to be found wandering through the camp.  Sit on your deck in the afternoon for a spot of wildlife watching.  Listen in the night for the sound of buffalo and hippo grazing outside your tent.

Activities in Rhino Camp: Morning and afternoon / evening game drives.  A visit to Sweetwater Chimpanzee Sanctuary is included.

Olare Motorogi Conservancy

Day notes

After breakfast, return to Nanyuki for your flight to the Mara, arriving in time for lunch. Lion Camp is located in unique and stunning setting on the banks of the seasonal Ntiakatiak River within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. This large area borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve and is home to an abundance of animals including the Mara’s renowned Big Cats. There is unsurpassed game-viewing within the conservancy due to its unspoiled natural state.

Take an afternoon game drive in the conservancy, stopping at a scenic point for a sundowner. Head back to camp in the dark in search of nocturnal animals.

The Olare Motorogi Conservancy is an 85 square kilometre expanse of prime private wilderness in southwest Kenya; part of the Maasai Mara-Serengeti ecosystem and wildlife dispersal zone. Open hills provide a habitat for a diverse range of grazers, including non-migrating wildebeest, giraffes, zebras, hartebeests, and warthogs. These herds attract large numbers of predators, including lions, cheetahs, hyena, and jackal. In between the hills run a number of small seasonal streams, fringed by stretches of forest which are home to a broader range of species including Olive baboons, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and leopard.

In the bushes around camp and the tents look out for Speckled Mousebird, Paradise Flycatcher, Spotted Flank Barbet and Brown Parrot.  At night, listen out for the resident pride of lions roaring and hippo coming out from the nearby river and waterholes to graze.

Activities in Lion Camp: Morning and afternoon / evening game drives; morning nature walk escorted by Masai warriors returning to camp for lunch.  A full or half day safari (depends on time of year and sightings) to look for the Big Five in the Masai Mara National Reserve (with breakfast and picnic lunch for full day safari)
