Arrive today by own arrangements in Kigali, Rwanda. After clearing immigration and customs formalities you will be met and transferred by private vehicle to the Retreat by Heaven.
This morning you are collected from your hotel and taken on a private city tour including the Kigali Genocide Museum and Memorial, opened in April 2004 as a permanent memorial to those who fell victim to the genocide in 1994 and a place for Rwandans to grieve for those they lost. The Center includes three permanent exhibitions, the largest of which documents the genocide. There is also a children’s memorial, and an exhibition on the history of genocidal violence around the world. The Education Centre, Memorial Gardens and National Documentation Centre of the Genocide all contribute to a meaningful tribute to those who perished, and form a powerful educational tool for the next generation.
After lunch you will be transferred by private vehicle through some beautiful mountain scenery to the Volcanoes National Park. Your accommodation for the next two nights is at Bisate Lodge.
This morning you will be collected from your hotel and driven to the park headquarters for a briefing before setting out to track a habituated family of gorillas accompanied by experience guides. These massive primates are extremely rare and it is therefore a great privilege to spend time with them. The walks can take up to 6 hours, although gorilla families are sometimes located much sooner. Once you have located the gorilla family, you will be permitted to spend one hour observing them – photos may be taken, but flash photography is generally not permitted.
Note: The trekking can be fairly strenuous as it is at relatively high altitude. Conditions are generally very muddy / slippery and there are uphill sections, which may be quite steep. Participants should be in good physical condition and free of illness. Anyone showing signs of illness will not be permitted to trek.
Today you will be transferred by private vehicle back to Kigali Airport. This evening connect on your outbound (own arrangements) international flight. End of services.
