Day 1: Papallacta

Guango Lodge: Your trip will begin to a drier central valley, and pass through agricultural zones and chaparral forest to the windswept paramo, ecosystems where you may spot Andean Condors, Carunculated Caracara, Andean gull, Black-tailed trainbearer, blue and yellow tanagers and Southern yellow grosbeak. Then you will continue to Papallacta pass, where rich paramo birdlife resides like: Rufousbellied Seedsnipe, Ecuadorian Hillstar, Tawny Antpitta, Many-striped Canastero, White-chinned Thistletail, Red-rumped Bush-Tyrant, Blackbilled Shrike-Tyrant, Brown-backed Chat-Tyrant, some interesting seedeaters, and even Giant Conebill. After this you will continue towards Guango Lodge, and on the way you will pass some beautiful high elevations temperate forest, and have the opportunity to see Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle, Viridian Metaltail, Red-crested Cotinga, Black-backed Bush-Tanager, among others. Once you arrive to the lodge, you will head to the hummingbird feeders to see Tourmaline Sunangel, Sword-billed Hummingbird and White-bellied Woodstar. In the late afternoon you will be welcomed to the lodge with a delicious drink called canelazo, and a tasty dinner.

Day 2: End of Itinerary

Return to Quito: After a buffet style breakfast, you will visit the various trails at Guango lodge, where you may spot species like: Bar-bellied Woodpecker, White-banded Tyrannulet, Blue-backed Conebill, Black-capped and Black-eared Hemispingus, Slaty and Pale-naped Brush-Finch, Gray-hooded Bush-Tanager, several species of mountain-tanager and even Plushcap. You will enjoy lunch near the hummingbird feeders, and then you will return to Quito.
