Your safari will start with a flight from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport to Mfuwe Airport, where you will be picked up for a road transfer through the Luangwa Valley, bringing you to your four-night stay at Tafika Main Camp.
Set on the east bank of the Luangwa River, north of the Nsefu Sector, Tafika Main Camp blends serene bush surroundings with thrilling wildlife encounters. Six spacious chalets, built around magnificent sausage and leadwood trees, offer en suite comfort. A private hide overlooking the camp waterhole is also available for guests to enjoy.
Days here are filled with guided game drives, walking safaris, mountain bike safaris, and cultural visits to Mkasanga Village. The camp’s two hides provide excellent in-camp viewing, where you may see elephants, puku, bushbuck, and a variety of birds gather. The Nsefu sector is renowned for its leopards, giving guests a high chance of spotting these elusive predators.
Mornings begin with breakfast by the Luangwa River, followed by safaris and a buffet lunch. Afternoons allow time to relax in camp or visit the hides. Evening drives finish with sundowners and spotlighting nocturnal wildlife, before a three-course dinner under the stars. Nights are spent lulled to sleep by the sounds of the African bush.
From Tafika Main Camp, you will be transferred to the airstrip and board a short charter flight that carries you over the Luangwa Valley to Takwela Main Camp, your wilderness base for the next three nights along the Luangwa River.
Takwela Main Camp is set in the remote North Luangwa, on private land at the confluence of the Luangwa and Mwaleshi Rivers. With just four en-suite chalets accommodating eight guests, the camp offers an exclusive and intimate wilderness experience. Overlooking a resident hippo pod and surrounded by pristine bush, wildlife is never far from view.
Begin each day with the sound of hippos and the gentle knock of the morning as the sun rises over the river. After a relaxed breakfast around the campfire, set out on a morning game drive or walking safari, with a stop for morning tea amid the bush. Return to camp for a buffet lunch featuring fresh produce from the camp garden, followed by a siesta on your verandah, counting hippos or reviewing your wildlife sightings.
In the afternoon, enjoy tea and freshly baked treats before heading out for an evening walking safari or game drive, complete with a sundowner and, on drives, a spotlight to glimpse nocturnal wildlife that may be near. Back at camp, pre-dinner drinks by the river set the scene for a three-course dinner by candlelight. Nights are spent under cotton sheets and mosquito nets, lulled to sleep by the sounds of hippos and hyenas in this truly immersive wilderness experience.
On your final morning, you will enjoy your breakfast before being transferred to the nearby airstrip, where you will catch a flight to Mfuwe Airport, and then to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in time for your departure Flight.
