Stop at El Viejo Wetland - Hacienda El Viejo has private reserve of 5000 acres, this area of the province does hold an enormous amount of biodiversity in the endangered tropical dry forest, a completely different type of forest that is in the Osa Peninsula or La Fortuna.
One bird in particular depends heavily on the Tempisque Valley and River for survival and that is the stunning jabiru, the largest stork in the country. For birders, this is a prized one to see as there are only about 70-80 left in Costa Rica.
