Hacienda Guachipelin is located at the foot of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano, in the northwestern region of Guanacaste. The hacienda borders the popular Rincón de la Vieja National Park. Natural hot springs, virgin forests, jungle waterfalls and volcanic clay pots are just some of the many attractions that tourists can enjoy during their stay at the hacienda.
Hacienda Guachipelin is truly an ecotourism lodge for adventure travelers and nature lovers. Property is surrounded by lush gardens with native trees, exotic flowers, and many species of birds. You Will have the chance to get views of both the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano and the Pacific Ocean. The property is comprised of 1,600 hectares of land, most of which are reserved.

Our superior rooms are set in a horseshoe-shaped formation around the property’s ancient and majestic Tempisque and Cedro Amargo trees. Each room walks out to a shared covered terrace that faces a large, open green space that is ideal for bird watching and photo opportunities.
Each Superior Room comes with two double beds or one queen-sized bed and an additional single bed can be included upon request. The Rincon de la Vieja Volcano is replete with birdwatching opportunities due to its diverse ecosystems. Over 300 different species have been identified in the area, including the Spectacled Owl, the Curassow and the Montezuma Oropendola. In the ecosystem fly colorful, sonorous, intrepid birds and owners of an exceptional environment. This is a show that you can experience on our guided bird watching tour.
The dry forest is full of wildlife and unique species. The perfect place to enjoy wildlife and bird watching is in the hotel’s lush gardens of native trees and exotic flowers around the rooms. Come to explore this bird paradise yourself, you’ll never regret it.

Do not miss out on one of the best day tours in Guanacaste, Costa Rica! Walk five km inside the national park to reach the waterfall. Along the trail you can see wildlife such as white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys and spider monkeys, coatis, armadillos, agoutis, iguanas, and birds such as the bobo bird or the emerald tucancillo.
From 40 meters high, a bubbling white water flow comes out from among the green forest, and the La Cangreja Waterfall forms a transparent pool of blue water at its base. Copper minerals that come from the volcano, dissolved in the water, give the water a heavenly blue color. Our bilingual naturalist guide provides a picnic lunch for you to enjoy next to the waterfall. Come relax in pure paradise!
Transportation to the entrance of the national park and the return trip is by vehicle from Hacienda Guachipelin (10 minutes per trip).

The Las Pailas trails of Rincon de la Vieja National Park are located very close to Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin.
The Las Pailas sector spectacularly shows the power of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano, the most active and largest volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Steam and sulfur come from natural fumaroles of the yellow and rusty soil. Witness clay pails in various shades of brown with boiling volcanic water, fine gray volcanic mud bubbles and explosions in large pails. This volcano is like no other in Costa Rica.
With our bilingual naturalist guide, you can walk the 3.5-km Las Pailas circular path through the tropical forest to enjoy the best views of the volcano, incredible nature, volcanic activity, and wildlife. The park is home to more than 300 species of birds, and many other animals, such as armadillos, bays, iguanas, coatis and white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys and spider monkeys. When we finish in the park, our one-day tour in Guanacaste ends with the walk back to Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin.

Near the Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin, Las Chorreras waterfall is a beautiful spot where you can unwind in nature and swim in a pool created by a tropical cascade.
Two twin falls cascade into a stunning pool of sky-blue mineral waters. A small canyon of volcanic rock surrounds the falls and the pool, creating an intimate and secluded tropical oasis for a refreshing dip.
Las Chorreras waterfall is located 1.5 km from Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin. Walk for 30 minutes along beautiful forest trails to reach the waterfall, enjoying the picturesque landscape of the dry tropical forest and observing the wildlife along the way. You’ll have plenty of time to relax at the waterfall before walking back to the hotel.

The picturesque Oropéndola Waterfall will most likely make your jaw drop. Set in a gorge along the Río Blanco River, the waterfall bisects a craggy rock wall and tumbles for 82 feet before crashing into a most inviting turquoise pool. Swims here are refreshing and heavenly; sunrays drench the water with warmth and light, there are shallow areas that are perfect for wading, and the entire place feels secluded. Part of the fun of visiting this waterfall is descending into the gorge on the footbridge that crosses the river.

Your excitement begins a short walk from Hacienda Guachipelin’s Adventure Center to the first zip line platform. Have exhilarating fun on seven zip line cables, one hanging bridge, two Tarzan swings, a controlled 20-meter (65-foot) rappel, natural rock climbing wall, and via ferrata traverses and climbs. The tour generally takes between 90 minutes and two hours to complete.
Enjoy non-stop fun and excitement bouncing and splashing down five km (three miles) of Class II and III rapids along this narrow, rushing river of crystal clear water. There are plenty of quiet pools along the way to appreciate the beautiful tropical scenery of the Rio Negro (Black River). Our special, individual river tube rafts are designed with handles and protective bottoms. Guides go with you and ensure your safety and enjoyment throughout the duration of your experience.
Part of your river tubing adventure includes riding our trusty Costa Rican ranch horses from Hacienda Guachipelin along scenic trails through the forest to get to the river.

Surrounded by a dense dry tropical forest, the Rio Negro Hot Springs area is beautiful and peaceful. The crystal clear waters of the river flow near the 10 pools built on the riverbank, filled with thermal waters rich in minerals, naturally heated in the depths of the volcano. You can access the pools on both banks of the river thanks to two suspension bridges.
For a rejuvenating treatment on your body, you can use the hot volcanic mud, which works just like a spa body masque. When the mud dries, you can wash it in the cold waters of the river before entering the thermal water pools again.

In a pleasant corner of the old garden of the hacienda house, 4 pleasant firepits have been placed to enjoy an excellent cocktail and something to eat outdoors. On the terrace, next to the hacienda’s old clay oven, we have selected some dishes that we prepare in the coven to enjoy local ingredients with dishes from the area.

The Surfer Suite is a two room unit designed for surfing families or traveling groups. The main room has a single queen bed, two sets of bunk beds with two single beds each (total of four single beds), closets, and a storage area. The second room has a living area, a table, and chairs. There is a large outdoor terrace included in the room. The bathroom features two toilet rooms, double sinks, and a large shower. With quick access to the jacuzzi, pool, and restaurant, the Surfer Suite is our most popular room for good reason. The Surfer Suite also includes a surfboard locker or storage rack.
Find comfort on our upper level in our Premium Plus King Rooms. These rooms feature a king size bed, vaulted ceilings, a table and chairs, an outdoor balcony, and an extra large bathroom. Located in the "Surfer Room" area, our handicap accessible Standard Surf Room contains one full size double bed, a spacious work desk, side tables, closet and storage space, a private bathroom with a glass wall, and a private garden space. This room has vaulted, double high ceilings to let in tons of light. These accessible rooms are a best value option for those looking to stay at the Gilded Iguana. The room also is outfitted with a surfboard storage area and rack.
Unwind on our upper level in our Premium Plus Double Queen Rooms. These spacious rooms feature two queen beds with side-tables, vaulted ceilings, an outdoor balcony, and an extra large bathroom. The Surf Club is the surfers paradise! The Club is located in between The Gilded Iguana Hotel and the beach, only steps away from the surf! Surf Club Membership includes Full Access to all Surf Equipment (Netflix Style). We have over 150 surfboards, all designed for playa guiones and the surrounding beaches of Nosara! We are constantly updating our board rooms to have the highest quality equipment for our members. We have boards for every level of surfing, from day one beginners, to seasoned veterans that are ready to rip! We also have SUP's, boogie boards, skim boards, and beaters (hybrid between a boogie board & surf board). Surf Club Membership also includes personal board storage in our air conditioned board rooms, located only steps from the beach. We offer daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly memberships. Membership also gives you full access to surf club amenities like the locker room, changing stalls, showers, surf lounge, and Juice Bar.
