On Long Street, the hotel's a local landmark which promotes local design. Heritage touches remain, not least in the vintage elevator. There's a glimpse of Table Mountain from the rooftop bar during the day and by night the stars come out to sparkle by the truck load. It's a buzzing place with the bar, restaurant and rooftop open to all, not just guests.

Sit down, this is quite the list. And not the norm. 

7 Airstream trailers on the roof. All decorated  in different styles from the Karoo to the Gold Rush with animals and wine thrown in for good measure. Queen size bed, wet room with shower and WC. TV, aircon, bar, fridge. The trailers are right by the bar. Right. By. The. Bar. Expect a lively night and a great opportunity to nip out for a nightcap in your pjs.

The hotel has suites, luxury, superior and standard rooms.

2 suites - the Grand Daddy and the Sugar Daddy. Both have king size beds or twins. LCD TVs, lounge, marble bathroom, music system. Grand Daddy is 60sq metres, it can accommodate two children on a pull out sofa in the living room. It has a garden patio. Sugar Daddy is 45sq metres and has a private Juliet balcony overlooking life on Long Street.

Luxury rooms are 30sq metres and good for families.

Superior are 20sq metres as are standards - the latter has a window looking into the inner courtyard.

All rooms offer king size beds or twins except the single rooms which have a single bed and walk in shower.

Earthy, simple, calm. 10km from the town, at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains. Mo And Rose At Soekershof comprises a guesthouse and wine bistro set in a much loved garden, drenched in succulents. The owners are rightly proud of this, it was created in the 1950s but eventually lay neglected. Now it’s been restored to its former glory. Mo And Rose makes a good base, you can easily reach about 48 wineries on just a short drive.

Back in the day Robertson was famous for its luxurious, extravagant and frankly rather delectable ostrich feathers. You see, between the 1880s and the First World War they were the height of fashion across the world. Their value per pound almost equal to that of diamonds. Which made them the currency you wanted in your pocket for sure. A single plume was a bounty, enough to buy you a ticket from Cape Town to London. But then there was war, the elite turned their back and in a flash ostrich amour was over. Oh the shame. From glittering fashionista to feather duster. It wasn't great for the local farmers either. Until they turned their attention to their vines... and boy was that a good call. The Robertson Wine Valley now makes up a section of the longest wine route in the world, Route 62. And Mo And Rose At Soekershof is right there, in Klaasvoogds West.

You can either stay in a room in the former farmhouse or a 'maisonette' in the cottage.

There are 6 rooms in the former farmhouse. All en-suite with private patio and decorated in a modern, contemporary style. Four Garden rooms with king sized beds and two Pool rooms. Pretty self explanatory, with the Garden rooms you get a good view of the... wait for it.... garden - and the Langeberg Mountains thrown in for good measure. With the Pool rooms you get a private pool as well as a splendid view. Garden Room 4 has underfloor heating in the bathroom as does Pool Room 5. The latter also has twin beds. Garden Room 1 only has a shower.

The cottage is a funky affair. Two split level rooms, like little maisonettes. They have a staircase leading up to an open plan bedroom. Seriously, don't contemplate these if you're a bit doddery or you know you get too hyper and silly after a night out. These need to be navigated with serenity.

Picturesque, beyond where your imagination can take you. You simply have to experience it first hand to believe such a place can be real. Especially since it is situated in the dry, arid, apparent nothingness of the Klein Karoo. An olive oasis if you will. A retreat.

Ideally located on the Route 62, this working olive farm is like a centre fold in a Country Living magazine. Cobbled walkways lined with rose bushes and impeccably trimmed lavender. Pristine surroundings, lush green mountains and valley as a setting for this immaculate boutique hotel of earthen colours and consummate elegance.

Described one would think, pretentious, but in fact, a more homely affair with a hint of class and indulgence to welcome you instead.

There are 5 family rooms, 22 luxury rooms, 3 single rooms and 1 honeymoon suite, all individually named with names as sophisticated as the décor which makes them so opulent. Crisp white linens with touches of leather, rustic chic and African flair combined with country side grace. 

Family Rooms: 4 of the family rooms can accommodate 4 people, with each room either a double or twin. Some on the ground floor and others with loft rooms. 1 family room accommodates 5 people with a king size bed on ground level and 3 single beds upstairs.

Luxury Rooms: can be converted into either a double or a twin, all offering a shower and a bath. 12 luxury rooms offer a panoramic view of the Swartberg Mountain and 3 of the rooms host a sleeper couch suitable for children under the age of 12.

Single Rooms: 2 of which have a double bed and 1 which only has a single bed. En-suite bathrooms with a shower. 

Honeymoon Suite: A king size bed and Roman bath in an open plan layout. Separate shower and all the extras to make this room a suite above the rest with a dash of romance.
