Guided afternoon/evening game drives take place on the 30 000-hectare private Ongava Game Reserve. The reserve is famed for its population of rhino as well as lion and other game such as antelope, including endemic black-faced impala, and zebra.

Full- or half-day guided morning game drives in the Etosha National Park, Namibia’s prime savannah wilderness area (with packed lunch on full day). See the massive saltpan as well as the perennial springs that provide the water required by the Park’s high-density big game population.

Offered seasonally and subject to an available walking guide, nature walks through the area take in the abundant array of life, from unusual plants to arid-adapted animals, with a chance of approaching white rhino.

Guests can interface with science and research across the Ongava Game Reserve and part of this experience is an immersion into the world of natural history and science at the new Ongava Visitor Centre. With dozens of in-depth displays that feature information on the geology, animals, plants and ecological functioning of this fascinating region, guests are encouraged to meander through the self-guided exhibition area.

You will receive a brief history on the rhinos in the area and the role of SRT and the Rhino Rangers which also touches on our partnership with the three Conservancies. This activity is run in conjunction with SRT working with Rhino Rangers who are based in the area. The Rangers will have left on foot around sunrise and headed to the nearby natural springs to look for fresh rhino tracks while you follow on in your safari vehicle in your own time. Once the Rangers have a good sighting, they will make contact with your guide and he will drive close to their position and ask you to climb off the safari vehicle so you can join the Rangers and start to approach on foot. During this process, the Rangers will show you how they tracked the animal and point out the indicators such as fresh tracks and fresh dung that they spotted along the way.

The time that can be spent watching the rhino is completely determined by elements such as wind and terrain which will influence the Rangers when they select the best way to approach. Wind speed and direction will play a major role in how close we can approach to the animals, and the Rangers will monitor them closely to make sure they are not disturbed by our presence. Once back at the vehicle the Rangers will explain how they identify the rhino and record all the necessary information. This is also a good time to voice any questions you have.

This activity is normally done in the late afternoon after the morning’s rhino tracking, and it is generally welcomed after a few hours of relaxing back at the Camp. You can either go on a short drive to the sundowner location or you can walk from anywhere between 45 and 90 minutes to a point where you will meet your sundowner set up which will have been brought out by the Journey Magicians. After the sun has set you will head back to camp by vehicle to be there in time for a shower and then to have an enjoyable and tasty dinner.

There are two different options on offer and the choice between them may be determined by what has already been seen on the way into camp. The decision on this can be taken after consultation with your guide.

This is a fascinating activity that will allow you to explore a petroglyph and rock painting site that is not visited by many guests and has more plates than the Twyfelfontein UNESCO World Heritage site. This is truly a hidden gem and for those that wish to explore the area by vehicle and foot.

This magical excursion takes you off the Reserve and into the Namib

Naukluft National Park, entering the Park gates at sunrise and going on to

capture the dunes whilst the light is soft and shadows accentuate their towering

shapes and curves. This area boasts some of the highest free-standing sand dunes

in the world and your guide can show you some of the myriad of fascinating

creatures and plants that have adapted to survive these harsh conditions in the

Namib Desert.

This is done in the late afternoon when you can either

go on a short drive to the selected ‘sundowner’ location or you can walk there

using a route that can take between 45 and 90 minutes. On arrival, you will find

your sundowner set up which will have been brought out by the camp crew and

you can relax there while enjoying seeing the shadows lengthen and the colours

fade. After the sun has set you will head back to camp in time for the shower run

and then have time to relax and enjoy a tasty dinner.

This is a superb area to walk and cycle in as there is plenty to

see, no matter which direction you start out in. These walks and rides allow your

guide to take you to explore the local area with you at almost any time of day, and

they offer a great alternative to scenic drives, especially for people who enjoy

being a little more active.
