Olmara Camp | Eastern Serengeti
Olmara Camp is located in the far eastern plains of the Serengeti, a remote, wildlife-rich pocket at the crossroads of endless grassy plains and woodlands. The camp features eight tented mini-suites nestled within a grove of acacias, overlooking expansive views of the Ngare Nayuki river valley and the plains beyond. Each tented suite has a cosy lounge area with comfortable sofas and a coffee table, a king-sized bed with bedside tables and lamps, a writing desk, a full-length wall mirror, and soft carpets over wooden floors. The suite extends into an en suite bathroom with a shower, double sinks, and a flushing toilet. The camp is open, without barriers or fences, allowing wildlife to move freely. The surrounding area is crossed by meandering rivers and dotted with ancient granite kopjes, offering a dramatic backdrop for walking safaris. Just a short walk from Olmara, you can examine animal tracks and learn to interpret the intricate stories of the bush. Olmara also organises multi-night walking and fly-camping expeditions escorted by professional guides. These trips explore the stunning wilderness north of the camp, where vehicles are not permitted.

The suite flows into en suite bathroom with shower, double hand basins, and a flushing toilet. The camp is open, with no borders or rails, the wildlife comes and goes. Share your experiences with friends and family with the satellite Wi-Fi connection. The camp itself is permanently positioned throughout the year. Freshwater is collected from wells within the national park and solar panels provide the electricity for lighting and camp operations. Game drives will take place twice daily, over the savanna of Soit le Motonyi and close to the acacia woodlands that border the rolling plains.
Wildlife you can expect to see here includes all the big cats – lion, leopard, and cheetah – in addition to Serval, elephant, giraffe, zebra, warthog, and hyena.
Please note, if you are a family with children aged under 12 years, you will need to book a private vehicle at extra cost.
Fly camping is an overnight experience that places our guests in the wilderness with a simple camp. It allows us to be immersed in the sounds of the African savannah at night and to appreciate the magnificent African skies. At night we get to enjoy sitting around a campfire where we eat our meals and share stories of our African adventures.
A back-to-basics camp does not mean a lack of comfort. A few luxuries are added by lovely soft duvets and down pillows. Dining is generous and wholesome and served with a cold beer or a cold glass of wine.
A fly-camp experience will take you deep into the wilderness for a night or two, during which we conduct most of our activities on foot; allowing you to experience the bush on an intimate level rather than an observatory one.
It is easy to find yourself inside all the time on safari, what with luxurious bedrooms, restaurants, and game drives to enjoy; We believe it is essential to step out of our comfort zone.
Step out and feel the rustle of the wind in the grass and the buzz of insects. Smile in wonder over the fast rise in your heartbeat, when a bird explodes from the cover of the undergrowth.
Join your knowledgeable walking guide straight after breakfast, and set out to uncover the secrets of the Serengeti on foot. A flutter of wings draws attention to a flock of green pigeons snacking on figs. Plump orange berries beckon, ripe and sweet to taste. Tracks and signs tell myriad tales of the species which inhabit this area, including all the shy ones we might have missed.
You could quietly watch a herd of elephants feeding on a riverbank, scan the kopjes for hidden owls or stare skyward to see a thermal column of vultures descending overhead, pinpointing a pride of lion on a kill.
Walking safaris are conducted in various ways: short walks and day walks. Short walks directly out of camp, are a wonderful option because they get you out of the vehicle and help you experience another side of the wilderness that you won’t find in a vehicle. A short walk will have you examining the tracks of the animals on your path, and learning about ways to interpret and understand the ‘story’ of the bush. The longer walking safaris involve heading into the wilderness areas of the Serengeti, where vehicles are not allowed, for a couple of nights of fly camping, far off the beaten path, to see what you can find, with an experienced guide by your side.
Dedicated fly camps offering multi-night off-road expeditions operate in both camps, and both pride themselves on the intimate knowledge their guides have of their environments.
We offer Bush Dinners that allows you to enjoy a delicious dinner in a remote part of the Serengeti, under an infinite ceiling of stars, a camp-fire and kindred spirits sharing stories.
