Experience the first glamping location in the Cape Winelands! Located beneath the historic Bainskloof Pass at the foothills of the Groenberg Mountain Range, AfriCamps at Doolhof is set within the award-winning Doolhof Wine Estate, a short drive from the picturesque town of Wellington and only 50 minutes from Cape Town.
Our 6 AfriCamps luxury glamping tents are surrounded by vineyards, the Kromme River that runs through the farm and glorious mountain views – best enjoyed while soaking in your outdoor wood-fired hot tub.
On Doolhof, two white varietals, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay and a substantial number of reds are grown. They include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Merlot, Pinotage and Shiraz. The white varietals are planted on the eastern slopes of the Groenberg, which allow the grapes cooler days and less direct sunlight. A visit to the estate’s tasting room is a must.
Activities on the estate include a 5km vineyard hike, the river walk that leads you all along the Kromme River, mountain bike trails that start on the property, a kids mountain bike trail, the gorgeous wine tasting room where you can try some of the estate’s award-winning wines along with a platter or lunch and, of course, the outdoor wood-fired hot tub next to your tent. You can also enjoy a selection of spa treatments from the comfort and privacy of your own tent. Off the property, explore the surrounding area’s popular mountain bike trails, hiking trails and fly-fishing in the Limietberg Nature Reserve, horse riding, touring between various Wellington wine farms and distilleries and world-class golf courses.

We set the bar high for our first camp outside of the Western Cape as AfriCamps at Mackers in Hazyview is magnificently set on the river bank of the Sabie River. Our luxury boutique glamping tents are all facing the river just a few meters from the streaming water and are surrounded by lush green grass and indigenous forest. The camp is just a few minutes’ drive from Hazyview, a small farming town that is famous for its banana, macadamia and coffee industry, but even better known for it’s easy access to the Panorama route and the Kruger National Park, two of the most popular tourist attractions in South Africa.
AfriCamps at Mackers is the perfect place to relax and explore when looking to spend some time in the Mpumalanga bush. Hear the nearby wild animals at night from the comfort of your luxury tent or walk a few meters over the soft grass to dip your toes into the river right in front of you. Spend some time in your own backyard taking a swim in the large swimming pool or taking a beautiful hike from your tent to admire the breath-taking scenery of waterfalls and wild rapids further up the river.
The camp is perfectly positioned to spend a few days exploring the area and visiting the many attractions in both directions of you. You could spend a day or two in the Kruger National Park spotting the Big 5 or driving along the Panoramic Route experiencing the breath-taking scenery and wonder of Gods Window, 3 Rondavels and Bourkes Luck potholes. Your host, owner Ryan will gladly offer tours for both routes.
